Introduction
Emaar Properties is among the most admired and valuable real estate development firms in
the world. With the demonstrated proficiencies in shopping malls, leisure & hospitality,
properties, and retail, Emaar outlines new lifestyle with an emphasis on design quality,
delivery time, and quality building (Emaar, 2020).

Mission: Emaar Properties is devoted to make and deliver quality and precious life style via
embedded expertise and knowledge, value centric method, and innovation that intends to
assure full satisfaction to their clients.

Vision: Emaar properties want to be a vigorous partner in the total welfare of economy and
society they are operating in.

Emaar Properties is based in the United Arab Emirates and it is listed on the Dubai Financial
Market as a Public Joint Stock Company (AB, 2020). It is a worldwide developer of
properties and provides premier lifestyle. The company has been forming lives and
landscapes in the UAE from its foundation in 1997. It is the developer of tallest building of
world – Burj Khalifa and many other iconic real estate properties, Emaar shapes value added
master planned societies which fulfill the complete range of residents’ life style needs. The
company’s headquarter is situated in DownTown Dubai close to the world’s famous Burj
Khalifa tower. Emaar’s major business line is investing in premium class buildings
construction in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Furthermore, the firm has construction sites in Turkey,
Pakistan, United States, Lebanon, Syria, Canada, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia
(Ibrahim, 2018).

For completion of this assignment, I interviewed a senior employee of Emaar properties and
asked following questions:

Q1: what are the sustainability goals of Emaar Properties?

Q2: what the implementations of this company to achieve sustainability goal?

Q3: what are the possible impacts of business activities on eco-system?

Q4: how the organization measures the sustainability goals?

The response of these questions is summarized below:

Sustainability Goals
Emaar is dedicated to protect the environment and make sure the sustainability of their
society. Their corporate sustainability goal is to handle the environmental risks and affects
emerging from the process of their business activities. They look forward to decrease their
affect, lessen problems and be future forward in their approach to conservation as well as
protection (Emaar, 2021).

The environmental policy of Emaar sticks to severe operating instructions to make sure that
they inflict less affect on the environment where they are operating. They work hard to alert
and carry on awareness among their workforce, communities, contractors, and suppliers
regarding the possible effects of their business activities on the eco-system and put a serious
focus on the liable behavior expected from them to eradicate, decrease and control possible
effects on the eco-system (HME, 2019).

They look for ways to lessen the diminution of both domestic as well as international
resources via best utilization, recycling, recovery, and re-use of energy and materials. Emaar
tries to eliminate, reduce, substitute and control the release, utilization, and discarding of
every dangerous substance and waste items by tangible and realist actions in support of
preventing pollution. They also struggle to make sure their communities, neighbors and third
parties face the minimum environmental effects from their business activities (Emaar, 2021).
Emaar aims to maintain, create and enhance performance through conforming to best legal
practices and other conditions, advancing this procedure via recurrent communications with
customers, shareholder, environmental experts, contractors, and legislation bodies. Emaar
wants to support largest standards in sustainability of environment over every form of their
operations. They work with the UAE’s green vision to strengthen awareness about greener
lifestyle by efficiency of water and energy. They aim to be cautious in protecting natural
resources, avoiding environmental pollution and preserving the environmental balance for the
permanent benefit of their societies and future generations.

Implementation
Emaar Properties has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dubai Carbon Centre
of Excellence, developed under the instructions of Supreme Energy Council of Dubai to offer
carbon aggregation and consultative services to commence a strategic alliance for supporting
reduction of greenhouse gas in the lifestyle of different communities of Emaar in Dubai
(DCCE, 2019).

Emaar Properties has launched a sustainability campaign – The Pearl Pledge – to promote
conservation of marine and sustainable utilization of water from all assets of the company.
This sustainability campaign spreads awareness of conserving and protecting the marines and
to intensifying the implementation of sustainable energy, water along with practices for
managing resources through each of their business activities (HME, 2019).

Impacts
Emaar Properties impacts numerous areas of economic wellbeing such as a decrease in the
sales of real estate ultimately prompts to a decrease in the prices of real estate which lowers
the worth of homes. The wastes at construction sites can have a bad impact on the
environment by pollution air and releasing other harmful substances which are ultimately
harmful for the health of society by making people sick (Frankel, 2021).

Measurement of Goals
To make sure the implementation of sustainability goals, Emaar Properties has proposed a set
of KPIs which are dropped to Company’s every business asset and unit. Few KPIs are same
to the KPIs defined in the UAE’s sustainability development goals like Energy Intensity of
Buildings, whereas others are commonly lined up with SDGs (Wyman, 2020).

Recommendations
Emaar Properties should work in collaboration with Climate Change Ministry and Education
Ministry to launch the sustainability programs for every school throughout the UAE with the
purpose of leaving a permanent renewable energy legacy for the country. The aim of this
campaign must be to create awareness among the youths of the UAE on the crucial
importance of sustainable habits and conservation of environment for the nations’ future. The
company must ensure the utilization of eco-friendly substances in their constructions. The
firms should also assist the citizens via revenue generating projects, particularly handicraft
and trade projects like promoting grocery stores, stationeries, and carpentry workshops to
make lasting income source which offers them a decent life. The company can also support
their employees with directions about how to map their tactics to the sustainability goals by
providing potential systems or approaches. To make sure greater clearness on the
implementation of sustainability goals, Emaar properties must help make voluntary targets
surged from sustainability goals with clear directions on how these goals must be tracked and
measured.
