Wonder – book review

Wonder is a touching, inspiring book written by J.K.Palacio. This is a story about a 10 years old boy named August
Pullman, who has a facial anomaly. He has a strong love for Star War and his dog – Daisy. He is a poor child, who has
undergone 27 surgeries, some big, some small, and all of these come from a specific gene. August had been homeschool
since he was small and was protected by his mother.

Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, Auggie wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid. But his new friend
can’t stop staring at him, which makes him shy, uncomfortable and feel like he is not normal. Although, some of his
friends like Jack, Summer… still protect and play with him.

Wonder begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon changes to the perspectives of his classmate, his sister, her
boyfriend, and others. These voices converge to help the readers know more about Auggie’s life at home and at school.
They also help readers to wonder about the true nature of empathy, compassion, acceptance, friendship and ultimately
– kindness.

For me, I think everyone must love and respect Auggie. Because he can bravely face the violence of his friends, with his
specific gene and can step outside of his comfort zone by stop wearing an astronaut hat to face the world. I like the way
Wonder teaches children. It helps us to realize that a small, simple act of kindness can make a big difference, and we
have the ability to choose kindness. We also can be a good person by anti-bullying others because everyone is equal.

I will rate Wonder 5 out of 5 stars as it’s a beautiful book. I would highly recommend Wonder to everyone, especially
children because it includes lots of good themes that children can learn from it.
