BETA Multiplayer
OpenBVE News and Development
Summary:
We are at the point were asking members of the community to test the program is becoming a
hassle and we are not getting the feedback and information needed which is causing issues for
us to fix the program. The group has advertised many testing’s and many members have sat idly
by ignoring us. We decided that we had enough of begging members to help and decided to
throw out a public beta. Our team will fix the bugs we are able to see instead of waiting for
bugs to appear during testing. This will help us begin to push out a full release in the future
rather than waiting.
There are 2 public servers hosting 2 routes available 24/7 until the end of August 2023.
All players must be aware that the program is a BETA which means THERE WILL BE
ISSUES THAT WE NEED TO FIND OUT AND FIX. This is not a final version of the
program; the point of the testing is to run at least 20 people and provide feedback. There will be
headaches and issues and we do apologize but we have gotten to the point where we can’t find
all the issues ourselves and asking for help is getting us nowhere. This guide will act as a walk

through to help new players joining the multiplayer servers for OpenBVE Multiplayer for the
first time.
We have seen a lot of people skip these steps and jump straight to support. DO NOT DO THIS.
READ!
NOTE: It is your responsibility as players to ensure your asset folders are setup the
correct way! The program will follow the exact method of loading routes and trains.
Failure to do so will result in unnecessary game errors.
WARNING!
DURING PUBLIC TESTING WE NOTED PEOPLE WERE MODIFYING THE
TRAINS AND ASSETS. DO NOT MODIFY ANYTHING IN THE ROUTE OR
TRAINS WITHOUT PROPER AUTHORIZATION FROM THE PROJECT
LEADER. YOU MAYBE THE CAUSE OF WHY ANOTHER PLAYER ISNT
ABLE TO LOAD THE GAME.
NOTE: The ats.cfg feature and .dll files are temporary removed from the trains provided. We
will add these back at a later date once the errors are resolved and fix. Do not add these files
into the train folder under any circumstances unless authorized by the Project leader
Trainkidkris.

Incorrect Folder Setup: Duplicate train folder name in the train folder
WARNING!: The photo above shows the train folder inside of the train folder. This file is
incorrectly placed! The game will give you errors when you attempt to load in. If you do not
setup your assets correctly for trains this is one of the errors you will receive when trying to
load the game and you will not boot into the game.

The photo above is the correct way the trains needed for the server should be in the folder. Note
the train name and then assets inside of the train folder. The Train folder must be able to read
the directory of that specific folder the server is using. Please check to make sure all of your
trains are installed correctly!
Please view this guide for Route setup:
[Incorrect directory Setup for routes EXAMPLE] D:\Multiplayer
Assets\ManagedContent\Railway\Route\NTT\exampleroute.csv
[Correct directory Setup for routes EXAMPLE] D:\Multiplayer
Assets\ManagedContent\Railway\Route\
[Incorrect FOLDER Setup for Trains EXAMPLE] D:\Multiplayer
Assets\ManagedContent\Railway\Train\NTT\TrainExample
NOTE 1: You do not have to have the same computer directory as the photo shows. We
recommend you follow the example. Ensure that the game can read the “Route and Train”
folder is of importance. Failure to setup the correct folders will result in the game giving errors
when attempting to join.
NOTE 2: If you’re running OpenBVE single player your settings may affect the behavior of
multiplayer where you will need to remap your asset folders. We are currently working on a fix
for this.
Example of errors you will receive for incorrectly organized folders and assets.
CHECK THE NAME OF THE ROUTE FILE TO ENSURE ITS NOT DUPLICATED.
Sometimes the route will have a (1) or (2) at the end of it because it was duplicated when
downloaded. If the file is renamed delete the duplicate and rename it back to the original name
that’s found in the google drive. OpenBVE is case sensitive, everything makes a big difference
if something is spelt wrong or uppercased incorrectly.
Multithreading
NOTE: The “Enable multithreading for train objects” should be disabled AND KEPT
DISABLED if you are having no errors or issues. However, if you’re having errors in the game,
we recommend you turn it “on or off”. This feature is to allow the user to gain more FPS while
the train in front or behind you is no longer within render distance. This doesn’t give you a high
boost of FPS if the train is near you. This feature contains errors if you receive them turn off the
feature. If errors still persist view the support and troubleshooting guide for more help. This
item is unstable at times so we rather you keep it off!
Step 7: Log in and select the Public OpenBVE Multiplayer Server 1 OR Public Multiplayer
Server 2. THERE IS NO PASSWORD TO ENTER THESE SERVERS. Select the train you
want to use in the server. Then Press “START” to join the server of your choice

Step 8: Wait for the game to load, be patient! Once loading is completed wait about 1-2 minutes
for the game to catch up loading all the items and players. If you have a black screen close the
game, reset and attempt to reload the program. After that press F9 to see the 2d map and where
the trains in front or behind you in the game.

When uploading a log file. Attach the file to the New Topic you are about to create. And provide
as many details as possible to help us replicate the issue you are having. We also recommend
recording the issue and uploading it to an unlisted link in YouTube so we can see how the issue
was found and what did you do to simulate that bug. This is necessary so we can have a record
of it on file to correct.
ALL ISSUES MUST BE UPLOADED ON THE FORUMS!
