One of the most notable changes in Robin occurs as he interacts with the
townspeople. At first, he approaches them with optimism and trust,
assuming that they will help him in his search for Major Molineux.
However, as he encounters deception, mockery, and hostility from
various characters, such as the townspeople and the barber, Robin’s
innocence begins to erode. These encounters gradually lead him to
realize the darker and more deceitful aspects of human nature.
Furthermore, Robin’s growth is evident in his changing attitude towards
Major Molineux himself. Initially, he holds his kinsman in high regard,
believing him to be a benevolent and respectable figure. However, as the
night unfolds and Robin witnesses Major Molineux’s public humiliation,
he begins to question his admiration for his relative. This moment marks
a significant turning point for Robin, as he starts to recognize the flaws
and complexities of the people he once revered.
