P: #If we take any of the Professional Level certifications, is there any value
going for the Cloud Digital Leader or the Associate Cloud Engineer?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:13#
A: #The Digital Leader is more business-focused, so it's quite different from
the tech certificates. I think it's worth doing as well as the others. You
definitely don't need to get the ACE as well as the professional certs, but it
can't hurt :-). Seriously, the ACE focuses on more practical side of things, and
complements the professional certs, so a lot of people have both.###
________________________________________________________________

###ziad#### - 10:11#
P: #is there any voucher after the program complete####
###2 Program Team - Seb#### - 10:13#
A: #on 2nd stage###

###Sarah Kristin#### - 10:12#

P: #Can you change from Cloud Engineer to Cloud Digital Leader?####
###2 Program Team - Seb#### - 10:13#
A: #We dont have digital leader this time in Get Cert###
________________________________________________________________

###Nick Amato#### - 10:12#

P: #Have people been able to get professional certs without the recommended
experience? I signed up for Cloud Architect, but only have a month or so of GCP
experience and ~2 years of IT.####
###2 Program Team - Seb#### - 10:14#
A: #Yes, is totally achievable ##
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:14#
A: #Yes! I got my first cert without all that experience, so it's definitely
possible — a recommendation only… it's more difficult, but it's doable.###
________________________________________________________________

###Mariano Marcondes#### - 10:14#

P: #hello. will this webninar be recorded so we can stady again?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:14#

###Vamsi Maringanti#### - 10:14#

P: #Do we have to complete Associate Cloud Engineer certificate as a prequisite for
professional Cloud Architect?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:15#
A: #Not at all!##
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:15#
A: #They address different focuses. It helps to have both, but it's
definitely not needed.##
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:16#
A: #I got my Cloud Architect cert without an ACE cert.###
________________________________________________________________

###Jacquelyn Hughes#### - 10:15#

P: #Is the ace appropriate for someone with no experience?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:17#
A: #You can still get it, but it's *much* harder without experience. You'll
need to do a lot of studying!###

P: #I am learning google cloud from last month and loving it. But, sometimes when
someone asks "why do you learn GCP? go for aws as it is the market leader?" My
answer would be " expected increament iof it's usage". I have a same question to
the team " Why should one go for GCP instead of other vendors?"####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:25#
A: #There a lot of answers to this one — it would take an hour to answer
it :-). My answer is that for me, Google Cloud is architecturally simpler, has a
more global view of the world, and has a more unified product set across the
spectrum of services… but that's just one engineer's view!###

###Edivan#### - 10:25#

P: #My answer for that is that Google Cloud is popular amongst more
technical/developer-lead startups. Sometimes going to the more popular means you
are also going to compete for average jobs with a lot of people. ####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:28#
A: #And that's a good answer too! There are a lot of good answers…##

P: #I work in the cybersec area. Some weeks ago i was studying the Chronicle, will
this course grasp that platform and service?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:34#
A: #We don't go into that in depth, but you can certainly do some self-study
on it. I think there may also be some stuff on Cloud Skills Boost that might be
relevant as well — take a look. Sorry for the unspecific answer…###

P: #Do you think it makes sense to get the Cloud Security Cert working with
offensive sec as Penetration Tester?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:37#
A: #I think so (I have the cert), but that depends on your own specialities —
check out https://cloud.google.com/learn/certification/cloud-security-engineer for
what the cert covers in detail…###

###Abdul Samee#### - 10:37#
P: #can you give one example for PaaS please####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:38#
A: #Cloud Run and App Engine in GCP are both good examples of PaaS##
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:39#
A: #You just give App Engine an app and it runs it and scales it, etc.,
without you ever seeing the underlying infrastructure (all those VMs! All those
networks and disks! -- they're all hidden).###

###Suneesh Edachery#### - 10:39#

P: #Does the lab have a time limit to complete it. Like once we start that it has
to completed in 30 minutesor 45 minutes?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:40#
A: #They all have reasonable limits, yes. It's rare to hit the timeout,
though.###
________________________________________________________________

###Lionel Pulickal#### - 10:40#

P: #is app engine also a FaaS?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:41#

Functions.##

P: #hoow many data centeer in 1 zone####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:43#
A: #Typically each zone is a data centre ###

###Abdul Samee#### - 10:43#

P: #do we have the instructions in the lab or it is like a test?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:43#
A: #You get detailed instructions with each lab.###

###Abdulkabir#### - 10:44#
P: #If we one deploy VM in several zones, what is the cost implication? Does it
mean it's always good to go with PaaS instead of IaaS as for Google to ensure
resource availability?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:46#
A: #You can only deploy a VM to a single zone. It's always more expensive to
deploy VMs across multiple zones because you are replicating those VMs — it's a
tradeoff. You have to work out whether you want to manage the availability
colutions yourself (IaaS) or let Google do that (PaaS, or using things like Managed
Instance Groups, etc.). It's a fascinating issue :-)###

###uma vaja#### - 10:45#

P: #how man regions google has as of today?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:47#
A: #forty!##
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:47#
A: #take a look at https://cloud.google.com/about/locations##
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:48#
A: #there were fewer than twenty when i started giving this class a few years
ago :-)###
________________________________________________________________

###Jose Spena#### - 10:50#

P: #One region has only four datacenters? ####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:50#
A: #Only one region has four zones, yes; all others have three. I'll leave it
to you to work out which one it is :-)###
________________________________________________________________

###Carlos Guerra#### - 10:50#

P: #Is prior experience necessary for professional certificates or is it more of a
recommendation?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:51#
A: #It's a strong recommendation; I did my Cloud Architect cert years ago
initially without much experience, so it's possible :-)###
________________________________________________________________

###Abdulkabir#### - 10:51#
P: #Thanks for the answer - follow-up question, the price of IaaS differs from
PaaS? If one goes with PaaS, how is CDN handled by Google?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:53#
A: #The way pricing works is typically different — with IaaS you typically
pay for what you construct and set up — you pay for that VM or network whether you
use it or not. With PaaS you typically only pay for resources when they're actively
in use. As with all these things, it's a tradeoff… as for CDN, you can get Google's
Cloud CDN to do that, or plug it in to CloudFlare, etc.###
________________________________________________________________

###Jose Spena#### - 10:51#

P: #one zone has more than one datacenter right?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:54#
A: #Each zone typically has a single data center building, but that's maybe
not alwyas true. You can actually see them on Google Maps (etc.) if you know what
you're looking for :-)###

P: #in re to HW infra sec: Designed by Google and made by/in...??####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:56#
A: #Google works with HW manufacturer (fabs, etc.) to get the HW made from
Google designs; they don't typially tell us who does this, so I can't speak to the
actual HW manufacturers :-).###

###Patrick McShane#### - 10:56#

P: #Is Google's identity service based on OpenLDAP????####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:57#
A: #It can use LDAP — that's one of the identity providers that can plug into
Cloud Identity.###

P: #Is there documentation regarding kubernetes deployment labels/annotations that
requests a service's pods are distributed across different datacenters of a region,
to ensure they are scheduled on nodes in different DCs?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 10:59#
A: #Yes, you can use node and pod affinities and topology annotations and
labels to do this, but I'll have to let you Google for that right now — it's a bit
out of scope for this class :-) (but I do teach it). Sorry!###

###Suma#### - 10:59#
P: #So GFE is a load balancer?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:01#
A: #It uses load balancers under the covers###
________________________________________________________________

###VenkataDharma Bhaverisetti#### - 11:00#

P: #sorry GateWay ####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:02#
A: #GFE is a basic layer — load balancers, gateways, etc. — that mediates
every interactyion with Google and Google Cloud.###
________________________________________________________________

###Kaushik Dasgupta#### - 11:01#

P: #Is GFE similar to AWS WAF?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:03#
A: #It's more basic than that; you can create a good WAF within Google Cloud
using (e.g.) Cloud Armor, IAP, and one of the HTTPS load balancers, and that will
cooperate with GFE, which is always there.###
________________________________________________________________

###VenkataDharma Bhaverisetti#### - 11:01#

P: #is it API Gateway - Apigee?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:04#
A: #Not really — Apigee works on top of GFE. Think of GFE as a basic layer
that underpins every interaction with Google and Google Cloud. Things like Apigee
or the GC_specific load balancers, WAFs, etc., cooperate with GFE to work.###

P: #can one ccount have multiple organizations?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:11#
A: #A single company can have multiple orgs — i.e. multiple clouds — but they
have to map to separate domains. How they map to billing accounts is beyond me,
sorry — I'm a techie, not a finance type :-)###

support the use of Gitlab Runner, GitHub Actions, CircleCI etc? And it is possible
to create several environments such as QA, Dev and production?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:13#
A: #Check out Cloud Build and Cloud Deploy for CI/CD, and Terraform for infra
as code. Google also partners with an infinite array of third party things like
Jenkins or Gut r whatever as well — you don't have to use the Google-native
tools.###

###Joe Natale#### - 11:11#

P: #sorry if I missed this - is a 'project' essentially a collection of managed
resources / cloud resources?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:14#
A: #Yes, it's a container of resources for billing / permissions / general
management / etc. purposes.###
________________________________________________________________

###Harshit#### - 11:13#
P: #For Production and Non-Production resources seperation will it be done at
folder level or organization level?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:15#

but it's up to the info architects or devops people in each organization.###
________________________________________________________________

###Vamsi Maringanti#### - 11:15#

P: #so everything starts with creating a project? we need a project to deploy any
containers, db etc?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:16#

billing works, and without billing set up, you wa't get very far :-)###
________________________________________________________________

###Phani Raj#### - 11:16#

P: #Why do we have two such identifiers for a Project? Id & Number####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:17#

one, but project IDs are typically a bit easier to remember and use than the
number.###

P: #By practice, do you think learning and mastering all this become easy? Or it
take several years of mastery to completely understand how Google cloud computing
works?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:20#
A: #I don't think anyone completely understands how Google Cloud works :-).
Yes, it gets easier over time, but yes, it also takes a couple of years at least to
become fluent in Google Cloud.###

###Vamsi Maringanti#### - 11:25#

P: #how cross project resource access looks? Do we have trust relationships that
enable this?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 11:27#
A: #It uses IAM and polcies to allow this access; it's fairly
straightforward, given that identities are typically defined at the org level. You
can do it by defining roles at the containing folder level if the projects are in
the same folder; otherwise, use several similar policies. It all depends on the
details…###

P: #What is the difference between SDK and API, which one is better than the other?
####
##Hamish Reid#### - 12:19#
A: #The SDK usually bundles up the APIs and CLI, etc. so one isn't better
than the other :-). The APIs are best when ou need to plug GCP into your app; the
CLIs — command line apps, etc. — are best when you want interactive command-line
access to Google Cloud through bash or zsh, etc. or for scripting.###

P: #what's the default cidr range of VPCs? Max number of IP addresses available in
a VPC?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 13:08#
A: #There is no default — VPCs take the CIDR ranges of their subnets, which
(in IPV4 land) can be anything from 10.x, 192.168.x.x, etc., and be from /24 to /9
as long as they don't overlap in the VPC. Youu have to specify these — there aren't
any defaults here.###

the subnet when you create it.###

on the same VPC. ###

I can install my own environments in a more automated way like all the applications
I have, to migrate or duplicate an entire environment, for example development
environment, homologation environment and production environment, with the same e2
vpc name and permissions settings?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 14:14#
A: #I think it's best to think of the marketplace as the app store for Google
Cloud — you're really just buying (sometimes for free) apps and services for Google
Cloud that can be configured to some extent to work in your environment. How much
configuration is available is up to the app writer — cpu type, IP options, storage
options, netowrk usage and conenction types, naming schemes, etc. It's all
installed by terraform, so you can imagine what's possible.###

and private vpc, Google when creating a vpc with the public and private ip option,
what types of access can I have when accessing via public ip, read and write or
read only?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 14:16#
A: #That's entirely up to you and things like firewall rules, IAM rules, etc.
and what the IP address refers to. E.g. if a VM has an externall IP that only means
that the IP is externally reachable and routable — whether there's actually a route
to the outside world, and whether there's a firewall rule allowing incoming and
outgoing access to / from that IP address, etc., is up to your routing setup and
firewall rules and network topology in general.###

P: #they dont scale together though? i was just wondering if there was some node to
load-balancer connection####
##Hamish Reid#### - 14:54#
A: #Not directly, no — it's complicated. You can have an entre cluster
without any visible load balancer as long as it has no externally-visible services.
Not a common setup, but still… LB scaling in most cases will probably be
proportional to pod and service numbers (which is indirectly related to node
numbers, for sure). Of cours, I'm most familiar with the Google version of this —
it might be very different elsewhere…###

P: #I have a question - If I have several micro-services, can all be grouped in a
project? And also in a situation where I have both frontend and backend in a
monorepo, how do I handle deployment on GCP ####
##Hamish Reid#### - 14:56#
A: #Yes, you can easily group the microservices into a single project (that
can make perfect sense in some cases). The other question is much harder to manage
in the abstract here — sorry, I only get a couple of sentences to answer things :-)
— but good use of CI/CD tools along with (maybe) Terraform should work. It's not an
uncommon situation.###

(maybe should :-) ) use buckets abd blobs :-).###

P: #May I have a sync copy of the bucket running in other regions?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 15:02#

other regions; this isn't automatic.###

###Eduardo Freire#### - 15:01#

P: #what is the differente between a bucket and a DB?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 15:03#
A: #Buckets are aimed at storing unstructured data, and have only the blob
name as a way to retrieve them. A database (primarily) stores structured data, and
usually has multiple ways to retrieve the same object (indexes and keys, etc.).###

P: #what if you dont know the access pattern? and can you back to standard after

A: #There's a class called autoclass that does this for you; it's not perfect
(it uses AI), but it's designed for situations like this. And yes, you can move
things back, but there are penalties (pricing in these cases is complicated, but
it's not expensive…).###

between classes. You can also use Cloud Storage lifcycle policies to do that as
well.###

if they're only single-region buckets. A dual-rgion bucket doesn't mean that it's
only visible in two regions, it just means the underlying data is only in two
regions. You can restrict acces to buckets from other regions using IAM or

P: #What are the main differences between Firestone and BigTable? I am not grasping
the distinction?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 16:43#
A: #Firestore is a general noSQL database for terabytes of documents and
objects; BigTable is a very fast way to persistently store petabytes of key/value
pairs very, very quickly, where the value side is typically sparse data in wide
column / column family setups. You'd use Firestore for general purpose object and
document storage; BigTable for raw data ingestion from IOT sensors, or Hadoop raw
data, etc.##
##Hamish Reid#### - 16:44#
A: #Firstore also has a fairly sophisticated query system; BigTable's is,
ummm, primitive and filter-based.###

P: #is gcp provides devops culture tools like aws code pipeline and like azure
devops services?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 17:02#
A: #GCP has a lot of DevOps tools and resources (Google is big on DevOps
internally) — see e.g. Cloud Deploy, Cloud Build, GCP's git repos, etc. Check out
https://cloud.google.com/devops — it's a bit markety, but it's a good place to
start…###

P: #Sorry maybe stupid, but whats the difference between kubernetes and google
kubernetes engine ?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 17:08#
A: #Think of GKE as a managed version of Kubernetes — Kubernetes with extra
admin features, and lots of help for configuring setups and so on to make it much
easier to setup and run K8S clusters and apps.###

###John Kennedy#### - 17:07#

P: #Do you have to pay for master/control nodes in GKE?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 17:09#
A: #Not sperately – that's part of the monthly management fee for standard
mode clusters, if I remember. You pay for each worker nodes, though. It's different
for the auotpilot setups…###

P: #so would you have data in a pod and the app in another pod or both in the same
pod or both are possible?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 17:14#
A: #Data on disk would be mounted into the same pod as the container that
uses it. You could have data in a database app running a separate pod, though,
which would have its own mounted disks.###

P: #How GKE relates to Docker?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 17:19#
A: #GKE uses the conteinerd layer to run Docker containers on the nodes, but
that's about it. You'd normally use Docker (either through a tool like Cloud Build,
or directly) to build the containers.###

##Hamish Reid#### - 17:23#

of Kubernetes. Something like Apache Kafka or Google Cloud Pub/Sub works nicely for
that in conjunction with Kubernetes Jobs.###

P: #Is it possible to specify performance characteristics (e.g. faster storage for
worker nodes) of a GKE cluster on autopilot? ####
##Hamish Reid#### - 17:27#
A: #There's some leeway for things like node affinities, etc., to make sure
that pods get matched to the right sort of nodes (with the right sort of storage).
You get less control than standard mode clusters, but there's still some control.
For storage, you get the control over storage classes used with PVCs just as you
would with standard mode.###

P: #Is cloud run more expensive?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 17:28#

###muhammad usman ahmad#### - 17:33#

P: #what is difference b/w gcp cloud functions and its cloud run?####
##Hamish Reid#### - 17:35#
A: #Cloud functions are small event-triggered standalone functions that do a
small amount of work (less than 30 seconds or so) each time they run. Cloud run is
a PaaS way to run Docker containers for extended amounts of time without worrying
about the underlying provisioning or scaling infrastructure.###
