Efficycle CAD Package Submission Guidelines

This document outlines the guidelines for submission of Efficycle CAD model. In case of any
queries or doubts, kindly write a mail to efficycle.technical@saenis.org.

1. Items Required for Submission:

a) CAD Model (STEP file with .stp extension)- single file
b) CAD Report (in presentation format; refer document no. 2.1)
c) Bill of Material (BOM in MS Excel given format; refer document no. 2.2)
d) Kinematics Videos (refer guidelines given in document no. 2.3)

2. General Guidelines
 The vehicle CAD file should be submitted in .stp file format. Team ID should be the .stp
file name and vehicle assembly name.
 All sub-assemblies and child parts must be present in the CAD assembly. All standard
parts which are procured should be captured in the assembly.
 Appropriate subsystem wise nomenclature should be followed for naming of sub -
assemblies and child parts. (The nomenclature system is given in Appendix B)
 Assemblies should not be modeled as a part. (e.g.: brake caliper assembly, mountings on
chassis)
 The material of all components and their corresponding weight will be captured in
BOM. Teams need to assign material to all components in CAD and mention weight in
BOM.
 All parts and assemblies should be constrained in the CAD model as per their functional
requirement. Snaps of entire assembly tree should be included in the CAD report.
 Motor is required to be modelled as per the drawing provided at Efficycle website (Click
here) and motor weight should be used for C.G. calculations.
 Battery enclosure and required mounting should be modeled. Individual cells need not
be modeled in the battery box but their weight must be considered for C.G. calculations.
 All electrical connections/routing and brake wire routing needs to be modeled and
should be appropriately named in part description in BOM. (E.g. Positive and Negative
Connections from battery to motor).

Appendix A: Standard/ Catalogue Parts

CAD models of standard parts can be obtained from online CAD libraries or supplier websites.

Note: Standard parts can be directly used from CAD catalogues available online, provided the
CAD geometry meets the design component dimensions and features and team is going to
use the exact same part in physical prototype also. E.g. If the design document specifies
requirement of a sprocket with 21 teeth and team chooses to use CAD for 24 teeth sprocket due
to unavailability of CAD for 21 teeth sprocket, it will result in loss of points.
The examples of standard CAD parts which can be taken online are given below provided they
satisfy the above rule. Parts other than mentioned below can also be used abiding to the rule.

Appendix B: Part Nomenclature

The part and assembly nomenclature followed will indicate the subsystem the parts belong to
followed by 3 digits. Teams can decide the numerical order to be followed for the sub-
assemblies/parts within the subsystem.

Subsystem Nomenclature
Chassis CHS_part-number e.g. (CHS_001, CHS_002…)
Drivetrain DRT_part-number e.g. (DRT_001, DRT_002…)
Suspension and wheel assembly SPW_part-number e.g. (SPW_001, SPW_002…)
Steering STR_part-number e.g. (STR_001, STR_002…)
Brakes BRK_part-number e.g. (BRK_001, BRK_002…)
Accessories ACC_part-number e.g. (ACC_001, ACC_002…)
Advanced Technologies ADT_part-number e.g. (ADT_001, ADT_002…)

Fasteners nomenclature is not restricted to subsystem. The nomenclature to be followed for

fasteners is given as FS_bolt_001, FS_nut_001, FS_washer_001, FS_screw_001 and so on.

All assemblies and sub-assemblies should be denoted by ending the assembly description with
the letter ‘A’ for better identification in CAD and BOM. E.g. the drivetrain sub-assembly would
be denoted as DRT_001_A.

If there are multiple instances of a part/sub assembly within the top level assembly, same part
number should be used everywhere.
