ACTIVITY 1
1. What is technology in education? How will this empower students to control their own
learning?

- Technology is a powerful tool that greatly changes education in multiway such as:

a) It allows students to access information quickly. When a student needs

information, it's only a click away, and due to technological advancements,
you may either type your question and what you want to know or simply use
your voice to ask for it directly.

b) It makes teaching easier and lively. Teachers now have access to computers,
projectors, and video recording, and many other technologies. There is no
longer a need to write on time-consuming manila paper that is prone to tear
with frequent use. And, because children are so into technology these days
that even a five-year-old knows how to operate a cellphone, they find it more
entertaining to use videos, television, or computer than books, workbooks, or
lectures.

c) It promotes collaboration among students. Technology can connect any people

on the internet. Even if we're in the midst of a pandemic, we can still
collaborate on group projects, gather ideas from our classmates, and integrate
them. Even file sharing is simplified by technology. There is no need to travel
and meet the person. Additionally, students can collaborate with other
students across the globe and learn from one another.

With all that being said, technology makes learning accessible and convenient for
students. If they don't understand the lesson well, they can search it up on the internet or
watch videos. Additionally, there is also a lot of software, video tutorials, and websites
that can help students develop their skills, such as Grammarly, Smule, or Simply Piano.
Technology creates a vast space filled with readily learning materials for students to
unfold, and it's up to them whenever or wherever they'd like to use it. Furthermore,
students can now track or monitor their progress and shortcomings. For instance, in
Google Classroom, students can view all of their submitted work and revisit them at any
time to view or reflect on them. All of it is made available by technology. With the right
encouragement of teachers, students will be empowered to take a step toward on
improving themselves.

2. Does the educational technology in the ’60s and 70’s still very useful in today’s
education? Explain your answer.

- No, because the educational technology available now is a hundredfold more

advanced than the technology available in the 1960s and 1970s. It is no longer
capable of keeping up with the speed and other specifications of twenty-first-century
technology. Furthermore, most of the technology from the 1960s and 1970s, such as
cassette tapes, is now difficult to come by and is considered antique technology.
When students of the twenty-first century use technology from the 1960s and 1970s,
they will find it difficult to operate and will only suffer a delay in their learning.
Although the technology of the past may still be valuable in illustrating the
progression of technology, it is not nearly as beneficial as the technology we have
now.
