Introduction

Technology provides instant accessibility to information, which is why its


presence in the classroom is so vital. Smart phones, computers, and tablets are
already an omnipresent element of everyday life for students and teachers alike.
It’s only natural that the use of technological devices in the classroom are
explored to create meaningful learning experiences for students of all ages.

Utilizing different types of technology in the classroom, including a virtual


classroom, creates learners who are actively engaged with learning objectives.
The implementation of technology also creates pathways for differentiated
instruction to meet the unique needs of students as individual learners within a
broader classroom climate.

Media and technology (videos, online games, educational children’s television


and web programs, applications or “apps,” whiteboards, software, tablets,
computers, and handheld devices, just to name a few) can be valuable tools in the
learning environment. When used intentionally with students, these tools can help
extend and support active, hands-on, creative, and authentic
engagement—individually, with those around them, and beyond. Media and
technology should be used to enhance the curriculum and can be integrated
naturally into the learning environment.

Educational Technology in Education

Technology is a term that originated from the Greek word technologia, which is a
combination of techne, meaning “craft” and logia meaning “saying”. As a result, technology
might be considered the articulation of a craft. In a formal manner, it is a branch of
knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation
with life, society and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts,
engineering, applied science and pure science (Random House Dictionary, 2013)

Technology, which is known to be a growing part of any society today pervasively, had
brought significant changes in the different fields like health, medicine, entertainment,
business, trade and commerce, leisure, etc. The use of technology is at least one
unavoidable reality twenty years after the introduction of personal computer (Matulac,
2013). Moreover, Matulac (2013) stated that closing our awareness regarding the changes
brought by technology would mean death especially to educators. Lensing into education, it
is also a key factor on the radical changes in the educational system (Bates, 2011). It turned
classroom environment from teacher-centered to student-centered one. It increasingly
moved the boundary of educational resources. The use of computer has transformed the
traditional concepts of education (Shirley, Philip & Jennifer, 2007) confirming the
statements of historic educationists: Thomas Edison (1922) ‘motion pictures would replace
textbooks in classrooms’, William Levenson (1945) ‘radio receivers would be as common in
classrooms as the blackboard, and B. F. Skinner (1960s) ‘new technology devices would
vastly increase students’ interest in learning’ (Norman, 1999). Researchers conducted
worldwide indicate that using technology has a positive impact on teaching and learning
(Almekhlafi & Almeqdadi, 2010)

The Philippines should not be left behind when it comes to applying education
technology. The ethical and responsible use of computers, tablets, cellphones and other
devices can greatly enhance the learning capability of students, for it has been shown
through studies that children (and adults for that matter) can better grasp and understand
their lessons in a more relaxed environment, without the prying (and sometimes mocking)
eyes of classmates or teachers.

Emerging technologies can be powerful tools in education. The Philippines can copy
the US and slowly, as the budget of the Department of Education allows, provide schools
computers, fast Internet service, digital devices and software for the use of students.
Investing on e-learning will benefit both teachers and students. Teachers can disseminate
their lessons and assignments with ease, and students can work on their lessons at home.
Little by little, the country can introduce changes to the system by adopting a wider array of
learning platforms with the use of technology.

How Technology improves Education

Apart from the argument that technology has negatively affected students' learning
schedules, edTech has been proved to be a helpful tool. Nowadays, the time that
students invest in learning can be utilized in the best way possible since their growth is
under their control thoroughly: either they can make efforts to stand out or let the
opportunities go vain.

1. Digital Simulations And Models

In traditional learning it is sometimes difficult for students to get a concept. Digital


simulations and models can help students not only better understand various disciplines,
but also get acquainted with the wonders of the modern world. Plus, technology has also
proved to be a helping hand for teachers who sometimes find it hard to explain certain
things within the boundaries of a physical classroom. Tech-savvy teachers are able to
prepare their lessons in a more strategical manner by including different types of text,
activity models, and interactive controls for students.

2. Improved Communication

Communication is an essential part of any activity. And when it comes to education,


ineffective communication is just not acceptable. Since technology has emerged,
communication gaps have been bridged up and the flow of knowledge has been
smoothened. Whether in a traditional or a virtual classroom, with online collaboration tools
everyone can just form a community where teachers assign projects to their students in
real-time and students may ask for clarifications, if any.

3. Advanced Research

Cloud storage has made research a lot easier for the students these days. Gone are
the days when they had to go through piles of books to find a specific reference to improve
their assignments and projects. With technology, research has been quite an effective
tool. Since a lot of time is saved during research, students are able to incorporate a lot of
information and knowledge in their projects. Also, the acquisition of different solutions and
results all over the world is now possible, which is likely the most obvious benefit a student
gets in his life.

With the help of digital simulations and models, teachers are not only able to prepare
lessons in an efficient manner, but also know the progress of their students. There

Needless to say, self-paced learning is another big advantage that students enjoy
with the emergence of technology in the education industry. When they opt to learn a
specific concept and confronting any difficulty, there is no need to just skip it off.
Although there are some quick learners who are capable of adapting quickly, there are
some others who take considerable time to absorb an idea. Such students are blessed
with the idea of technology being part of their learning; now they can easily pace up
with their peers with the complete understanding of developed lessons and online
curriculum that is exclusively designed for them

It is a fact that a student learns more when he practices. The use of technology

The importance of Technology in Education

There are countless reasons why technology is a key aspect of learning in the
schools. Whether we like it or not, technology is everywhere; and in order for our
students to survive in post-secondary education and the business world, they must know
technology.

9 reasons why technology is important in education:

1. Kids are the digital native.

Kids know technology better than most adults. It has become the easiest way they
learn, because it is such an integral part of their life. Engaging with technology in the
classroom has not only helped them learn better, but they also acquire multi-tasking
skills. At this day in age, they hardly know how to learn without it. This knowledge is
important, because they would be way behind in the real world without it.

2. It helps students learn more (and better)

Students learn in different ways. In a traditional lesson, a teacher presents material,


and students all engage with it in the same way. The entire class is expected to move
through the content at the same pace. As you can imagine, there’s very little room for
freedom when teaching thirty students the same things in the same ways during the
same time frames. But that doesn’t have to be the case.

Online tools give students more flexible learning experiences. Some students might
use a YouTube video tutorial to better understand a concept. Others might complete an
online activity or game that provides instant feedback so they know if they’re on the right
track. Students who understand the material right away can find more difficult problems
or activities to supplement their knowledge, while those who need more practice can use
a different activity that provides more repetition. In other words, technology
offers variety to students in a way that a typical classroom lecture cannot.

Technology also motivates students to learn. They look forward to having time on
their devices to explore and learn things through websites, videos, apps, and games.
Students can learn and have fun at the same time, which helps them stay engaged with
the material.

students.

Like parents, teachers benefit enormously from technology. They can easily email an
entire class or send a Remind.com text message to all parents simultaneously. If a
teacher needs to reach a specfic parent, they’re only a few clicks away. When a teacher
needs help from colleagues, she can send a quick email or join an online forum to share
ideas and ask questions.

It also gives teachers the opportunity to pursue professional development from the
comfort of their device. Nowadays, university classes and entire degree programs can be
taken online. There are also websites where teachers can help and support one another.
Thousands of articles are at their fingertips to help them learn about what is changing in
the field of education and discover some of the best practices are from around the world.

As the typical classroom size continues to grow, technology provides a way to
make it seem a bit smaller and more manageable. Students can get instant

for an entire class all at once.

Computers can provide students various levels of instruction based on their


individual learning needs. When classes were smaller, a teacher could
differentiate individual lessons for each student. with larger classes, technology
can help teachers differentiate for all students in the classroom. There are plenty
of programs, sites, and tutorials that offer students instant help whether they’re at
home or at school. These help teachers provide individual instruction and give
them time to work one on one with students while others advance at their own
pace using online tools.

Students can also tutor classmates with the use of technology. They can
collaborate and ask questions in real time, both at home and at school through
online discussion forums or Slack channels set up by their instructors.
Technology allows students to help each other and work together across to better
understand the material. In that sense, they can sometimes serve as the
(supervised) teachers — and learning through instruction is known to be highly
effective for mastering a topic and solving problems.

complete an assignment — like making a blog, website, video, and more.

7. It can save money

Although devices such as Chromebooks, iPads, and computers all cost


quite a bit of money, they’re worth the investment when you consider what
they’re able to provide. In the long term, these devices offer so many tools that
they more than pay for themselves.

Districts can save money on paper by using more electronic documents.


Emails can replace many of the papers that were once sent home to parents.
Teachers can upload assignments to Google Classroom or learning
management systems instead of using copiers to print out packets of materials.

Less money can be spent on supplementary materials because there are

students’ performance can be done instantly with technology. Beyond seeing test
scores in real-time, teachers can better track and understand students’ grasp of the
subject.

9. Multitude of resources

Hardware (Laptop, Desktop Computer, Interactive Whiteboard, Digital/Video


Camera, Tablet of Handheld, Clickers, Audio Recorders), Sofware ( web browser, word
processing, power point presetation, grapics, aplication and SMART notebook) tablets,
and other forms of technology bring multiple resources for the teacher that’s not in the
book. They not only keep students engaged with exciting new features and apps, but
also have other ways to teach students material. Every kid learns differently, and
technology helps with this gap as well.

TECHNOLOGY IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

It is noted that physical education environments use a variety of technologies to


enhance the activity level and skill development of K-12 students. However, in spite of
the potential to transform the field of education, evidence exist that physical education
teachers are less likely to use technology than their subject-matter counterparts (Vahey
& Crawford, 2002). To encourage teacher candidates to become proficient in using
technology,

NASPE outlines four guidelines for appropriate use of instructional technology in


physical education:

1) The use of instructional technology in physical education is designed to provide a


tool for increasing instructional effectiveness.

2) The use of instructional technology in physical education is designed to


supplement, not substitute for, effective instruction.

3) The use of instructional technology in physical education should provide


opportunities for all students, versus opportunities for few.

4) The use of instructional technology in physical education can prove to be an


effective tool for maintaining student data related to standards-based curriculum
objectives. (Mears, et al., 2009, pp. 2-4)

Benefits of incorporating technology into physical education classes

One of the benefits of incorporating technology into physical education classes is


that learning can be enhanced beyond strategies, skills, and rules between individual
and team sports. It becomes possible to align physical education with other areas such
as maths or geography, and physical activities can be individualized to create optimal
challenges for students.

7 Ways to Integrate Technology into Physical Education

Teaching physical education can be challenging for any number of reasons, from a

from each can be just as different. The basic pedometer can measure steps taken,
distance, time a person is in activity, calories burned and a few other fundamental
measures. In addition, some pedometers record heart rate, have time-of-day displays,
are weather resistant, have alternate metric capabilities and provide easy-to-read
displays. There has been a variety of research studies conducted with pedometers and
the findings have consistently reported using the technology device to be beneficial as
both an instructional aid as well as a measurement device for activity during Physical
education. For example, the research has found that pedometers are a valid method of
measuring the amount of physical activity in physical education class; pedometers are
easy to use, cost effective, break resistant, come as waist or wrist mounted features
and with different measurement capabilities, the device make students accountable for
their activity during physical education class.

activities. Using these devices allows educators and students to aim for an

world by creating classroom blogs or websites. A classroom website is valuable for
encouraging discussion after class, or enabling communication for students applying
PE techniques or working on sport practices or exercise outside of classroom.

Another awesome way to leverage virtual connectivity is to invite guests into your
classroom via video chat programs such as Skype, Zoom and Imo. Students can also
be encouraged to get involved with online courses about nutrition, exercising, and
fitness principles, or web quests geared toward purposeful inquiry.

As a result of advancements in technology and
faster internet becoming available today, it is now
possible to stream videos on YouTube and Vimeo.
Physical education teachers can take advantage

Different platforms of fitness games

Blaston

Blaston is a VR game where you and an opponent stand atop a little platform, and
then pick up the games magically forming around you to shoot each other with. Each
gun fires different kinds of bullets, and you can change the load out as you unlock new
ones by leveling up.

What makes it such a great fitness game, is that you have to dodge the bullets
flying towards you. You do this by moving around, crouching, crab walking, jumping,
and just generally moving constantly. It's not just a great cardio workout, but also good
for your balance and your core strength as you make sure you're dodging the giant ball
of energy floating towards you.

Active Arcade is one of the best fitness games going, and the best part about it is
that it's on mobile phones. All you have to do is make sure the screen and the camera
are pointing towards you, and then you just have to do as you're told. It features a
collection of different mini-games that all have the aim of making you move your body.
Sometimes that means you'll be jumping about like a fool, and other games will have
you trying to move your arms to strike specific points. It's a really fun way to add a little
bit of excitement and novelty into your training, and fitness fanatics and newbies alike
will love it.

Fitness Boxing

If you don't want to shell out for Ring Fit Adventure then Nintendo Fitness
Boxing could be a good alternative. The Switch game offers you workouts overseen by
a virtual trainer, where you use your Joy-Con motion controllers to perform punches
and dodging maneuvers, with the difficulty increasing gradually over time.

The game uses your weight and height to estimate your fitness age and calorie
burn, setting the routine, length and intensity of these workouts based on this, however

putting into it because it's so much fun - but you'll certainly feel it tomorrow.

Zumba: Burn It Up

Yet another fitness game offering from Nintendo, Zumba: Burn It Up is the newest
addition to the Zumba video game series. Burn It Up essentially offers you a private
Zumba lesson in your home, with 30 high-energy classes to get your heart-pumping
and some great tunes for you to shake your hips to. It's an official Zumba product that
features real-life instructors, so you know it's legit. Plus, you can get up to three friends
to join you for the tortur- sorry, fun.

Wii Sports

Wii Sports offers five sports to play: baseball, bowling, tennis, golf and boxing. You
use your Wii remote to mimic the actions you would do if you were actually taking part
in the sport.

In addition, there are training and fitness modes available that monitor players'
progress. Plus, you don't have to play alone! All the activities are available to play
multiplayer so you can beat your pal at tennis without having to step on the court.

Knockout League

Another VR fitness game that will put you through your paces, Knockout League is
an arcade-style boxing game that sees you immersing yourself in the fight. The game
uses 1:1 tracking of your head and hands, so you'll need to make sure you duck and
dodge every punch that comes your way - while landing some of your own.

But it's not all that serious, some of your competitors are a tad.. out of the ordinary.
So expect to go mano a mano with a moustached octopus, pirate and many more
wacky fighters.

Adapting to new technology can be challenging for instructors. Sometimes,


physical education instructors can feel as if technology does not apply to their subject.
However, by embracing technology, physical education instructors create a more
varied and dynamic classroom. They are also able to appeal to the interests of many
different students and ability types. Using technology to teach physical health allows
educators to create more activities and show how important their goals are.

Health saving technologies in the classroom are an important part of both the teaching
process and the education of students. They can help children learn something and stay
healthy at the same time. The poor impact of education on children’s health was noticed in
1805 when the famous teacher Pestalozzi noticed that children are undermined in their
healthy development by going to a traditional school. These problems have only grown in the
past century.

As technologies improved, children’s health declined. More and more of them would
spend hours in front of a screen. At first it was the television, then the computer and finally,
mobile devices. We’ve grown from having a stationary device that provided entertainment
and information to having a mobile device that’s always with us. Children see adults with the
devices and they want to use them as well. Nowadays, kids don’t get much physical activity
at all. They go to school and come back home to their entertainment.

This takes a toll on their health. However, technology doesn’t always have to be bad for
children. In fact, it can be used to improve their knowledge of health and benefits of
movement. So, even though you’re already helping children improve their health by teaching
a second language, you can take it a step further and make sure your classroom is great for
both mental and physical health.

It is important to acknowledge that students are already interested and engaged in


using technology, this creates many amazing opportunities for schools and teachers to
benefit from integrating some forms of technology in the classroom and to make teaching
and learning more effective. Here are some of the main benefits of using technology in the
classroom.

Improves engagement

When technology is integrated into lessons, students are expected to be more


interested in the subjects they are studying. Technology provides different opportunities to
make learning more fun and enjoyable in terms of teaching same things in new ways. For
instance, delivering teaching through gamification, taking students on virtual field trips and

Computer Ethics
= a set of moral standards that govern the use of computers. It is society’s views
about the use of computers, both hardware and software. Privacy concerns, intellectual
property rights and effects on the society are some of the common issues of computer
ethics.

Privacy Concerns

Hacking – is unlawful intrusion into a computer or a network. A hacker can intrude


through the security levels of a computer system or network and can acquire unauthorized
access to other computers.

Malware – means malicious software which is created to impair a computer system.


Common malware are viruses, spyware, worms and Trojan horses. A virus can delete files
from a hard drive while a spyware can collect data from a computer.

Data Protection – also known as information privacy or data privacy is the process of
safeguarding data which intends to influence a balance between individual privacy rights
while still authorizing data to be used for business purposes.

Anonymity – is a way of keeping a user’s identity masked through various applications.

Copyright – is a form of intellectual property that gives proprietary publication,


distribution and usage rights for the author. This means that whatever idea the author
created cannot be employed or disseminated by anyone else without the permission of
the author.

Plagiarism – is an act of copying and publishing another person’s work without


proper citation. It’s like stealing someone else work and releasing it as your own work.

Cracking – is a way of breaking into a system by getting past the security features of
the system. It’s a way of skipping the registration and authentication steps when installing
a software.

Software License – allows the use of digital material by following the license
agreement. Ownership remains with the original copyright owner, users are just granted
licenses to use the material based on the agreement.

Effects on Society

Jobs – Some jobs have been abolished while some jobs have become simpler as
computers have taken over companies and businesses. Things can now be done in just
one click whereas before it takes multiple steps to perform a task. This change may be

Copyright
= refers to the legal right of the owner of intellectual property.
In simpler terms, copyright is the right to copy. This means that the original creators of
products and anyone they give authorization to are the only ones with the exclusive right
to reproduce the work.

Copyright is a legal means of protecting an author's work. It is a type of intellectual


property that provides exclusive publication, distribution, and usage rights for the author.
This means whatever content the author created cannot be used or published by anyone
else without the consent of the author. The length of copyright protection may vary from
country to country, but it usually lasts for the life of the author plus 50 to 100 years.

Many different types of content can be protected by copyright. Examples include


books, poems, plays, songs, films, and artwork. In modern times, copyright protection
has been extended to websites and other online content. Therefore, any original content
published on the Web is protected by copyright law. This is important in the digital age
we live in, since large amounts of content can be easily copied and pasted.

So how do you obtain copyright protection? Fortunately, in most countries, copyright


protection is automatic. This means whenever you publish original content, it is

Where did copyright law originate?

Copyright law originated with the United States Constitution. In


Article I, Section 8, the Constitution states that "Congress shall have
the power...To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by
securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right
to their respective Writings and Discoveries".

 The Copyright Office of the Library of Congress is responsible


for overseeing the administrative functions of the copyright law.
 Congress enacts copyright laws.
 The Federal courts interpret and enforce the copyright law.

Why is copyright law important?

Copyright law has a dual role. It provides exclusive rights to


authors in order to protect their work for a limited period of time but it
was also established to promote creativity and learning.

When does a work become copyrighted?

A work becomes copyrighted when it is fixed* in a tangible medium


of expression. After March 1, 1989 works no longer require a copyright
notice (© or the word copyright, the author´s name and the year of
publication). Copyright registration is also no longer required.
However, it is wise to affix a copyright notice to works so that the
owner of the copyright can be easily identified.

What can be copyrighted?

Eight categories of works are copyrightable:

 Literary, musical and dramatic works.


 Pantomimes and choreographic works.
 Pictorial, graphic and sculptural works.

Internet privacy takes many
forms, including mandatory privacy
statements on websites, data sharing
controls, data transparency initiatives
and more.
Internet privacy and anonymity are paramount to users, especially as e-commerce
continues to gain traction. Privacy violations and threat risks are standard considerations
for any website under development.

Internet privacy is also known as online privacy.

GDPR and Privacy Policy


One of the biggest things that people talk about when they discuss Internet privacy is
the regulation of handling user data.
A most commonly cited example is the General Data Protection Rule or GDPR,
which is a European standard recently adopted to protect the data of European citizens.
Ostensibly, the act governs data belonging to EU citizens, but the way that the
regulation plays out affects many companies in other parts of the world. A multinational
company utilizing the global Internet (or just a company with international reach) may
have any number of European users as members, subscribers or customers. That
requires the company in question to keep GDPR compliance for the corresponding data
set.
In addition, other countries, states and provinces have come up with their own data
privacy laws. Many of these are very much in the nature of trying to close barn doors
already opened by a lack of universal Internet regulation from the infancy of the World
Wide Web itself.

Biometrics and Other Methods


Many kinds of Internet privacy technologies and security implementations rely on
biometrics as a key method of user authentication.

The general idea is that if data is biometrically protected, only the individual with the
biometric data will have access to it.

Early biometric designs included thumbprint and retina scan devices, but many of
these were not very feasible due to hardware requirements and integration
requirements. Now, the promise of voice-based authentication adds a key functionality
to Internet privacy technology. Many types of data sets can be stored behind a
voice-based authentication system, ensuring that only the individual with access will be
able to view them.

RA No. 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012

Filipinos spend an average of 10 hours and 2 minutes each day online, the highest
in the world, according to recent data. The Philippines also tops social media use for
the fourth straight year. Vast amounts of personal information from the Philippines,
including photos of daily activities, are freely circulating the Web.

What has the country done to ensure privacy and data protection?

In 2012, the Philippines passed Republic Act No. 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of
2012 (DPA) “to protect the fundamental human right to privacy of communication while
ensuring free flow of information to promote innovation and growth [and] the [State’s]
inherent obligation to ensure that personal information in information and
communications systems in government and in the private sector are secured and
protected”.

The DPA was passed in accordance with the Philippines agreements under
ASEAN Vision 2020 and at the urging of the growing business process outsourcing
industry. The law was modeled after the Data Protection Directive (95/46/EC) with
many of its terminologies and provisions similar to privacy laws in other jurisdictions.

What acts are covered by the DPA?

The DPA and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) apply to all acts done
or practices engaged in and outside of the Philippines if:

= If the person, either an individual or an institution, involved in the processing of personal


data is located in the Philippines;

= The act or practice involves personal data of a Philippine citizen or Philippine resident;

= The processing of personal data is done in the Philippines; or

= The act, practice or processing of personal data is done by an entity with links to the
Philippines, subject to international law and comity.

“Personal data” refers to all types of personal information.

“Processing” is any operation/s performed upon personal data. These operations


include, but are not limited to the collection, recording, organization, storage,
updating or modification, retrieval, consultation, use, consolidation, blocking,
erasure, or destruction of data.

Who implements the DPA?

The National Privacy Commission (NPC) is in charge of administering and


implementing the DPA. It is also tasked to monitor and ensure compliance of the
Philippines with international standards for personal data protection. The major
functions of the NPC are as follows:

1. Rule making.
2. Advisory. The NPC is the advisory body on matters related to personal data
protection.
3. Public education. – The NPC shall launch initiatives to educate the public about
data privacy, data protection and fair information rights and responsibilities

4. Compliance and monitoring. – The body has compliance and monitoring
functions to ensure personal information controllers comply with the law. It is also
tasked to manage the registration of personal data processing systems.
5. Complaints and investigations.

How to comply with the Data Privacy Act?

If you are a personal information controller, you are required to comply with the
following in accordance with the law:

Registration of data processing systems (DPS). An individual or institution


employing fewer than 250 employees need not register unless its data processing
operations:

involves sensitive personal information of at least 1,000 individuals; likely to pose a


risk to the rights and freedoms of data subjects; or the processing is not occasional.

Notification of automated processing operations where the processing


becomes the sole basis of making decisions about a data subject and when the
decisions would significantly affect the data subject. A “data subject” is an individual
whose personal, sensitive personal or privileged information is process.

NOTE: No decision with legal effects concerning a data subject shall be made solely on
the basis of automated processing without the consent of the data subject. The consent
may be in written, electronic or recorded form. It may be given by a lawful
representative or agent.

Appointment of a Data Protection Officer in charge of ensuring compliance with
the DPA;

Creation of a data breach response team that will immediately address security
incidents or personal data breach;

Adoption of data protection policies that provide for data security measures and
security incident management;

Annual report of the summary of documented security incidents and personal data
breaches; and

Compliance with other requirements as may be provided by the NPC.

What should you do in the event of a data breach?

The law requires a data breach notification within 72 hours upon knowledge of the
breach or reasonable belief that it has occurred to the NPC and the data subject. The
notification is generally required when the breach involves sensitive personal
information or any other information that may be used to enable identity fraud; this
information has been acquired by an unauthorized person; and the acquisition is likely
to give rise to a real risk of serious harm to the affected data subject.

The NPC may investigate the breach, depending on its nature or if there is a delay
or failure to notify. Inquiries may include on-site examination of systems and
procedures.

The Philippines has a relatively young data privacy regime. The Data Privacy Act ,
as well as RA No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act, was only enacted in 2012,
although some countries passed data protection laws as early as the 70s.

The Philippines’ regulatory body NPC was formally organized only in 2016, which
issued IRRs and circulars in the same year. Nevertheless, the country is on its way to
developing a stable framework of privacy protection as technological innovations

How to create an efficient and presentable PowerPoint in the classroom

Step 1: Launch the PowerPoint Program

When you launch the PowerPoint program, you may be prompted to pick what kind
of document you want to create. Choose to create a blank presentation. If it does not
ask you this, a blank presentation will automatically launch.

Step 2: Choosing a Design

The next thing you want to do is decide what design you want for the presentation. To
do this, go to the 'Design' tab at the top of the page. Scroll through all the options and
decide which one looks best for the presentation you want. To get a preview of what the
design will look like before applying it to the presentation, hover over the design you want
to preview.

This design will be automatically continued throughout the rest of your presentation.
Once you have more than one slide, you can add a different design for just one slide. To do
this, select the slide you want to change the design on by clicking on it. It will pop-up as the
big slide in the screen. Then you can right-click the design you want for this slide and select
'Apply to Selected Slide'. It will appear on that slide, but will not change the design of the
other slides.
Step 3: Create Title Page

Click the first box that says 'Click to add title' and add the title of your
presentation. Click the bottom box to add your name, or any other subtitle that you
choose. Once you have your text in the boxes, you can change their font, size, color, etc.
with the toolbar options at the top. You can change the size of the text box by selecting it,
and then dragging the corners of the box. To move the text boxes, select the box, and
move your arrow over the border of the box. A four-arrow icon will appear, and clicking
with this icon will allow you to move the text boxes wherever you choose.

Step 4: Add More Slides

There are a few ways you can add more slides. Notice that there is a separate area
to the left of the screen where your first slide is located. The first way to add a slide is to
right-click the area under where your first slide is located and select 'New Slide'. A new
slide will appear. The second way to add another slide it to click 'New Slide' in the toolbar
above the slides. This button is divided into two parts,. The top will insert a new slide with
a default layout. You can also click the bottom half of this button, which will allow you to
choose what type of layout you want. You can choose a slide with two text-boxes and a
title, one text-box, only a title, and many other options. You will see your new slide
appear to the left under the first, as well become the large slide that you can edit. The
design you picked earlier will have carried over to this slide. The design will carry over for
the rest of the slides you create unless you decide to change just one, like described
earlier. The guideline layout you chose will appear, and you can then add in your
information.

Step 5: Add Charts, Pictures, Graphs, Etc.

If you want to insert a chart, picture, graph, or any other graphic, click on the 'Insert'
tab at the top of the window. Here you will see buttons of all the options of what you can
insert into your slide. Click the designated box and insert what it is you want to have on
that slide. A second way you can insert pictures and graphs is when you have an empty
text or image box. Little pictures of the same options you saw in the toolbox will show
up in the middle of the box, and you can click any of these to insert as well. Once you
have your chart or picture, you can add a border or edit it however you want in the
'Format' tab.

Step 6: Add Transitions

To add transitions in between your slides, click the 'Animations' tab at the top of the
page. Here you can scroll through all the options of transitions, and hover over them to see
a preview. Select the slide you want the transition applied to, and then click the transition
you chose. You can do this for every slide, selecting the same or different transitions.

Step 7: Changing the Order

Once you have all your slides made, you can change the order of the slides. To do
this, click and drag the slides from where they are to where you want them in the
order. Another possibility, which is particularly useful if you presentation is longer, is to
click the 'Outline' button. You can find this small button above the left area where all your
slides are located smaller, directly to the right of the 'Slides' button. Here you will see a list
of all your slides and you can click and drag your slides to where you want them.

Step 8: Play the Presentation

Once you have all your slides completed and in the order you want, view your
slideshow. Click the 'Slide Show' tab at the top of the page and select 'From
Beginning'. You can go through your entire slideshow, and change slides by clicking
or pressing the right arrow. A shortcut to this is pressing F5. Congratulations! You
have now made a PowerPoint presentation.

HOW TO CREATE AN EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION

1. Minimize the number of slides


To maintain a clear message and to keep your audience attentive and interested,
keep the number of slides in your presentation to a minimum of 15 but not exceed to 20
slides.

2. Choose an audience-friendly font size


The audience must be able to read your slides from a distance. Generally
.
speaking, a font size smaller than 30 might be too difficult for the audience to see.

3. Keep your slide text simple


Instead of reading the screen. Use bullets or short sentences, and try to keep each
item to one line. If you want your audience to listen to you, present each line with
substantive information.

4. Use visuals to help express your message


Pictures, charts, graphs, and SmartArt graphics provide visual cues for your
audience to remember. Add meaningful art to complement the text and messaging on
your slides. As with text, however, avoid including too many visual aids on your slide

5. Make labels for charts and graphs understandable


Use only enough text to make label elements in a chart or graph comprehensible.

6. Apply subtle, consistent slide backgrounds


Choose an appealing, consistent template or theme that is not too eye-catching.
You don't want the background or design to detract from your message.

However, you also want to provide a contrast between the background color and
text color. The built-in themes in PowerPoint set the contrast between a light
background with dark colored text or dark background with light colored text. Apply a
theme to add color and style to your presentation.

7. Check the spelling and grammar

To earn and maintain the respect of your audience, always check the spelling and
grammar in your presentation.

 Since this module is given in soft copy, it is expected that you have to print it out (only if you
think it is more convenient for you). I know that some of you are not amenable to this due to
some financial reasons but it doesn’t cost much than your actual school expenses when there is no
pandemic. You are not required to print the entire module if your choose to; you may only
print the pages that contain the activities and tasks.
