anything. Using the literary lines below, come up with your own assertion of any type.

“I like criticism. It makes you strong.” – Lebron James

Dealing with criticism positively is an important life skill.

B. Frank has a hard time studying so he plays little games to get himself to finish his
assignments. He will begin by saying to himself, “Whenever I finish an assignment, I’ll
give myself a prize.” Frank has all kinds of prizes; his favorites are watching a detective
show on television, drinking a milk tea, and spending an hour with his girlfriend. Of
course, too many of these rewards would mean that Frank won’t get much else done.
So Frank uses other strategies. He will for example, set the watch timer for an hour.
Then, he will work at the kitchen table until the timer buzzes. Also, he puts a paper clip
on every tenth page of the book he is studying. As soon as he reaches the clip he can
take a five-minute beak.

What’s the first thing teens do after waking up in the morning? How about the
last thing they do before calling it a night?

I have observed that most, if not all, teens I know sleep with their cellphones
and scroll through their inbox or newsfeed about waking up in the morning. In the
evening, they text or chat with friends before going to sleep. According to “Cisco
Connected World Technology Report,” 90% of young people get hold of their mobile
phones before getting out of bed and doing their waking up rituals like peeing and
brushing their teeth.

Whether we agree or not, social media have impacted and dominated our lives
over the years. As of July 2015, the total worldwide population was 7.3 billion, while
the Internet had 3.17 billion users. Facebook, the biggest social networking sites, had
the largest number of users with 1.71 billion. WeChat came in second with 1.12 billion
users and Youtube, third with over a billion.

“With their encompassing influence, social media have become a part of our
lifestyle. These platforms connect us to the rest of the world. They’re an avenue in
exchanging information and ideas with other people. They make me understand the
world better. Life will be entirely different without the internet,”shares Khyle Miggs
Ytang, Grade 12 student of Mindanao Mission Academy.

Unfortunately, children in third world countries such as the Philippines, are

being exploited through this same technology. Webcam sex tourism is a newly coined
term describing how pedophiles and sex offenders virtually rape children in their own
homes,” laments Dr. Helen Madamba, an OB-GYN infectious disease specialist.

How then can teens be safe online? Lysa Myers, security researcher of
welivesecurity.com, offers tips for reducing risks for children to become online victims:

● Teens must follow Internet rules set by parents.

● Teens must be informed that they must socialize only with people they
know in real life.
● Parents should communicate and talk to their children about potential
online danger.
● Parents should spend time with their children online.
Teens are naturally curious, and social media can be a great way for them to
learn, explore, discover, and express themselves given reasonable restrictions to guide
them. With proper adult guidance, they can gain confidence to protect themselves
throughout their online and offline activities and toward limitless possibilities.
