MS Word Summary Notes:

1. A word processor is an application package that allows you to prepare letters, reports,
memos, books and any type of correspondence. These can be saved to be worked on
later, or printed. When entering text, you do not have to bother about where the end of
each line comes, because the word wrapping feature allows you to move automatically
to a new line. You need to press enter only if the line is a short line or to move to a new
paragraph. You can also insert graphics and symbols into documents.

2. A word processor contains many editing and proofing features that enables you to make
changes to a document quickly and easily. Some of the editing features include:
 Delete ( characters, words, and blocks of text can be easily be deleted)
 Insert ( characters, words, and blocks of text can be easily be inserted)
 Cut, Copy and Paste (characters, words, and blocks of text can be removed, or copied
from one part of a document and placed in another part of the same document or in
another document that is currently on the desktop).

3. Formatting determines the final appearance of a document. Formatting can be carried


out at three levels- Character, paragraph and page.
 Characters can be formatted using the Font type (Times New Romain, Old English,
Arial etc.), Size ( height of a character), Font style (regular, boldface, underline , Italics),
Font Colour and special effects (superscript, subscript, strikethrough, shadow, outline,
emboss, engrave, caps)
 Paragraph Formatting includes: Line Spacing (distance between lines), Justification
(alignment of a block of text according to the margins, e.g. left Centre, right and full
justification) and indenting (pushing a line or paragraph in or out from the left or right
margin).
 Pages can be formatted by adjusting the margins and by including the page numbers.

4. Tables can be easily be inserted into a document to display statistical and numerical
data.
