1. What do you mean by STYLES?
A style is a set of formats that you can apply to selected pages, text, frames, and other elements in
your document to quickly change their appearance. When you apply a style, you apply a whole group
of formats at the same time.
Styles are logical attributes. Styles with identical names are automatically overwritten.

2. Explain different types of STYLES.


OpenOffice.org supports the following types of styles:
• Page styles include margins, headers and footers, borders and backgrounds. In Calc, page styles
also include the sequence for printing sheets.
• Paragraph styles control all aspects of a paragraph’s appearance, such as text alignment, tab stops,
line spacing, and borders, and can include character formatting.
• Character styles affect selected text within a paragraph, such as the font and size of text, or bold
and italic formats.
• Frame styles are used to format graphic and text frames, including wrapping type, borders,
backgrounds, and columns.
• Numbering styles apply similar alignment, numbering or bullet characters, and fonts to numbered
or bulleted lists.
• Cell styles include fonts, alignment, borders, background, number formats (for example, currency,
date, number), and cell protection.
• Graphics styles in drawings and presentations include line, area, shadowing, transparency, font,
connectors, dimensioning, and other attributes.
• Presentation styles include attributes for font, indents, spacing, alignment, and tabs.

3. Benefits of styles.
• Styles quickly change appearance of document.
• We can apply a whole group of formats at the same time in document
• Styles help improve consistency in a document.
• They also make major formatting changes easy.
• Styles make the task easy.

4. Define Templates.
Templates or document templates refer to a sample fill-in-the-blank document that can help in saving
time. It contains text, graphics, set of styles, etc They may have sample content, themes, etc.
Template- a model use to create other documents.. All documents in open office. Org are based on
templates.
A template is a model that you use to create other documents.
Different types of templates are Certificate, Resume, awards, calendar, business cards, brochures etc

5. Benefits/Advantages of templates.
• It also saves your time.
• Helps to create professional document
• Consistency in document
6. Explain fill format mode.
Fill format mode is used to apply a style to many different areas quickly without having to go back to
the Styles.

7. Write any five ways to insert an image in word file.


• Drag and Drop
• Inserting An Image From The Clipboard
• Inserting An Image Using A Scanner
• Inserting An Image From The Gallery
• Insert Picture Dialog

8. What do you understand by the terms:


a. Text Wrapping
Text wrapping refers to the relation of graphics to the surrounding text, which may wrap around the
graphic on one or both sides, be overprinted behind or in front of the graphic, or treat the graphic as a
separate paragraph or character.
b. Anchoring
Anchoring refers to the reference point for the graphics. This point could be the page, or frame where
the object is, a paragraph, or even a character. An image always has an anchor point.
c. Alignment
Alignment refers to the vertical or horizontal placement of a graphic in relation to the chosen anchor
point.
d. Arrangement
Arrangement refers to the placement of a graphic on an imaginary vertical axis. Arrangement
controls how graphics are stacked upon each other or relative to the text.
9. Explain cropping.
Removal of a part from an image is called Cropping.
When you are interested in a section of the image for the purpose of your document, you may wish to
crop (cut off) parts of it.
10. Explain Mail Merge.
The mail merge feature is used to send the basic letter to a large number of people at the same time.
It combines a data source into main document. Here, main document can be letters, mailing labels,
and name tags etc
To send mails by mail merge, there has to be:
• Main Document- The document that contains a text of a letter
• Data Source- The file that contains name and address i.e., data of recipients

11. What are advantages of Mail Merge?


• A standard letter can be saved and reused multiple times.
• This feature saves your time and efforts
• It helps to print multiple copies of a document, mailing labels etc
• Make changes in letter easily
• Much easier to proofread a one letter as compared to thousands of letters

12. Give examples of databases in which the Data Source can be created.
MySQL, MS – Access, OpenOffice base, Oracle

13. What is table?


A table is an arrangement of data in horizontal rows and vertical columns.
14. Explain different types of Graphic filters and their effects.

How can you modify an image?


When you insert a new image, you may customize or modify it to suit your
requirements or specifications. Here we will discuss the use of the Picture toolbar,
resizing, cropping, and a workaround to rotate a picture.

How can we create our own styles?


We can create new styles by following two ways :
1. Creating new styles from selection.
2. Dragging And Dropping To Create A Style.

Steps to crop a image


Right click on image and select Picture from the pop-up menu.
In the Picture dialog box, select the Crop page and select the part from left, right, top and bottom
which you want to remove.

Explain different ways of creating a template


Templates can be created in the following two ways
• Creating A Template From A Document
• Creating A Template Using A Wizard

How can you assign custom styles?


Writer automatically assigns to the table of contents all paragraphs formatted with the
default heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, and so on).
Define structure line buttons?
• The E# button represents the chapter number.
• The E button represents the entry text.
• The T button represents a tab stop.
• The # button represents the page number.
• The LS button represents the start of a hyperlink. (This button doesn't appear on the
default Structure line.)
• The LE button represents the end of a hyperlink. (This button doesn't appear on the
default Structure line.)

What do you mean by (Toc) table of content?


Writer’s table of contents feature lets you build an automated table of contents from the
headings in your document. Before you start, make sure that the headings are styled
consistently. For example, you can use the Heading 1 style for chapter titles and the
Heading 2 and Heading 3 styles for chapter subheadings.
