ABSTRACT ytoplankton which contributes to a Diatoms are one of the most common types of phi lakes and oceans. In the Present substantial portion of primary production in many study, the diatomological investigation has been carried out from Oct 2009 to Sep 2010 on the water of Galta Kund in relation to selected physicochemical parameters, During the study period, about 24 species of diatoms were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Water analysis is done for selected physicochemical parameters fike Biological oxygen demand (BOD), Chemical oxygen demand (COD). Dissolved oxygen (D0), Total dissolved solids (TDS), Rainfall, Relative Humidity, pH and Temperature. The results indicate that the density of diatom species was influenced by physical and chemical factors of the environment. MATERIALS AND METHODS Study Area Gala ji“ TEMPLE OF THE SUN GOD” isa prety litle pilgrim spot located just beyond Sisodia Rani-ka Bagh on Agra Road at 2 distance of 10 km from Jaipur (Rajasthan). This is the sacred spot where one sage Galav is supposed to have lived and meditated. ‘As such the place is visited mainly [or its temple Balaji ka Mandir. Ihe temple, however, as alarge daily attendance, ‘Tho are also some springs and natural reservoirs (kunds) around the Galta Temple, where thousands of people come every year fo take a dip to rinse out their sins Prem in the cold of mid-January, devotees throng to these kaunds for their ritual dip on Makar Sankranti, an important festival of the Hindus. The holiest one of these i the Galta Kund, believed never to become dry figure 1. ‘All the seven tanks, including the Galta Kund, are fed by 2 spring emanating from the Gaumukh, a rock carved in the shape of a cow's head. The maintenance of the temple is financed by the Birla family. Galta Kund is situated between latitude 72°52°15” and longitude 26°55°1S"occupying an area of 0.53 Kis surrounded by Aravali hills having height above mean see level from $69 m-537m. Continous water monitoring has carried out to estimate the extent to which diatom diversity is influenced. The diatoms were sampled from the upper surface of the boulder with a stff toothbrush and the epilithon collected in a 250 ml sample bottle, suspended in distilled water (Kelly et af, 1998) and were stained in Lugol's iodine solution for future examination. Diatom samples were preserved in the Algal Biotech Laboratory, Department of Botany, University of assessment (Patrick, 19° e ‘el, 1991; Whitton and K: they are taxonomically are well suited for water quality al., 1991; Coste e .d Smol, 2002) because Rajasthan.
