ABOUT RTI Act:
This act gives Indian citizens the right to access information about any
public authority or institution, including non-government organizations
substantially funded by the government.
It became fully operational on October 12, 2005, this law is enacted by the
parliament of India
The Act applies to all States and Union Territories of India, Except the state
of Jammu and Kashmir-which is covered under a State-level law
Under the provisions of RTI Act, any citizen of India may request
information from a “public authority” (a body of Government or
“instrumentality of State”) which is required to reply expenditiously or
within thirty days.
Right to Information Act is the backbone of democracy. If people do not
have right to know and are not empowered to question their government for
accountability, democracy will not have a real meaning in true sense. Good
governance cannot be ensured where people have no or limited access to
information
Any person who is a citizen of India can file an RTI application. He can go
for filing an RTI at any point in time whenever he wants to seek any
information regarding any government organisation, or its any ongoing
program, any public authority, etc
