UNIT 7

THEME: NAMING FOOD

1.-AVOCADO

I often eat avocados because they are very healthy.

2.-BURGER

Burgers are not very healthy, but I love them!

3.-CEREAL

cereal (n.) - a food that is made from grain and eaten with milk, especially in the morning

I eat cereal for breakfast.


4.-CHILI PEPPER

chili pepper (n.) - any of several types of red pepper (=type of vegetable) that are used to make
foods spicy

I put chili peppers in my food to make it taste very hot.

5.-CORN

corn (n.) - a tall plant grown in many parts of the world for its yellow seeds, which are eaten as
food

I like to put corn on the barbecue. It tastes great.

6.-JAM

jam (n.) - a sweet food made from fruit that you put on bread

I like to have jam on bread with butter for breakfast.


7.-LETTUCE

lettuce (n.) - a plant with green leaves, which is eaten with salads

I have a salad with lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber for lunch.

8.- NOODLES

noodles (n.) - thin pieces of pasta (= food made from flour, eggs, and water) used in Chinese
cooking

Noodles are quick to cook, and they taste great.

9.-ONION

I like to put red onion in my salad. Some people don't like it, but I do!
10.-PASTA

pasta (n.) - a food made of flour, water, and sometimes egg that comes in many different shapes

My favorite Italian food is pasta.

11.- PEANUT BUTTER

I love peanut butter sandwiches. They're great.

12.-PEPPER

I like to put salt and pepper on all my meals.


13.-SALMON

Salmon is my favorite kind of fish to eat.

14.-STRAWBERRY

Strawberries are one of the healthiest fruits. I like to eat them with cream.

A lot of people have yogurt for breakfast, but I usually eat it in the afternoon as a snack.
THEME: DESCRIBING FOOD

1.- DELICIUS

delicious (adj.) - tasting or smelling very good

I love eating pizza! It’s delicious!

2.-FRESH

fresh (adj.) - a food that someone made or collected recently

I made bread this morning. It’s really fresh.


3.- BITTER

bitter (adj.) - having a strong, sour, usually unpleasant taste

I don’t like coffee without sugar. It’s too bitter.

4.- SPICY

spicy (adj.) - having strong flavors from spices that are hot

Be careful! Don‘t put too many chilies on your food. They’re really spicy!
5.- SOUR

sour (adj.) - having a strong and sometimes unpleasant taste or smell, like a lemon; not sweet

This lemon is really sour!

6.- BOILED

boiled (adj.) - cooked in very hot water

We eat a lot of boiled vegetables in winter.

7.- FRIED

fried (adj.) - cooked in hot oil or fat

I often have fried eggs for breakfast.


8.- GRILLED

grilled (adj.) - cooked on a flat, metal structure over a fire

Grilled chicken and corn are my mom’s favorite foods. She loves them!

9.- RAW

raw (adj.) - not cooked

I don’t like raw fish. I prefer it grilled or fried.


10.- ROASTED

roasted (adj.) - cooked in an oven or over a fire

This chicken is roasted. We cooked it in the oven for a long time.

UNIT 8

THEME: TRAVELING

1.-AIRPLANE

airplane (n.) - a vehicle that flies and has an engine and wings

I'm going to Hawaii for vacation. I'm going by airplane.

2.- CHECK-IN COUNTER

check-in counter (n.) - the place at an airport where you go to say that you have arrived for your
flight
3.- BACKPACK

backpack (n.) - a bag that you carry on your back

I always take my backpack when I go hiking. I put in a bottle of water and a ma

4.-SUITCASE

suitcase (n.) - a rectangular case with a handle that you use for carrying clothes when you travel

I bought a new suitcase today. I am going on vacation next week, and I need to take a lot of things.

5.- TOURIST

tourist (n.) - a person who visits a place for fun and does not live there

There are always a lot of tourists in my city. They come from all over the world.
6.- BUS STATION

bus station (n.) - a place where a bus starts and ends its trip

They’re taking the bus at the bus station.

7.- TOUR BUS

tour bus (n.) - a vehicle on which tourists travel around a place, area, or country

We can visit all the important places in the city on this tour bus.
8.-TOUR GUIDE

tour guide (n.) - a person whose job is to show visitors a place or area

Our tour guide took us to some great places and told us about them.

9.-GUIDEBOOK

guidebook (n.) - a book that gives visitors information about a place

If I visit a new city, I always buy a guidebook. They have very useful information.

10.-MAP

map (n.) - a picture that shows where countries, towns, roads, rivers, etc. are

THEME: USING THE TRANSPORTATION

1.- TAKE

take (the train/bus) (v.) – to go somewhere by bus or train

I usually take the train to work. I don’t take the bus.

get on (the bus/train) (ph. v.) – to board a bus or train to start your journey

There are a lot of people who get on the bus at the same stop as me.

I got off the train and called my friend to meet me at the exit.

I take two trains to work. I take a train from my town into the city, and then change trains at the
main station to go to my office.

The bus drops me off outside my office.

pick (someone) up (ph. v.) – to go to a place where a person is and take them to a different place

The bus stops outside the college and picks up students.


UNIT 9

THEME: NAMING ACCESSORIES

1.- belt

belt (n.) - a long thin piece of leather, cloth, or plastic that you wear around your waist

I got a new belt for my jeans today.

2.- gloves

gloves (n.) - a piece of clothing that covers your fingers and hand

Your hands feel cold. Put on some gloves.

3.- scarf
scarf (n.) - a piece of cloth that you wear around your neck, head, or shoulders to keep warm or for
decoration

I always wear a scarf in winter to keep my neck warm.

4.- sunglasses

sunglasses (n.) - dark glasses that you wear to protect your eyes from the sun

I always wear my sunglasses outside when it is sunny.

5.- tie

tie (n.) - a long, thin piece of cloth that you wear under a shirt collar and tie in front (more
common in men's clothing)

I bought my dad a tie for his birthday.

6.- bracelet
bracelet (n.) - a piece of jewelry that you wear around your wrist

I don’t wear a watch, but I do like to wear a bracelet on my wrist.

7.- earrings

earrings (n.) - jewelry that you wear on or through your ear

I like to wear big earrings in my ears.

8.- necklace

necklace (n.) - a piece of jewelry that you wear around your neck

I bought a big necklace to go around my neck.

9.- sneakers
sneakers (n.) - a soft sports shoe

I bought a new pair of sneakers because I want to start running.

10.- socks

socks (n.) - what you wear on your feet inside your shoes.

I don't like to wear socks in the summer. My feet get hot.

THEME: DESCRIBING APPEARANCE

1.- dark hair

I have dark hair. It is a really dark brown.


2.- gray hair

Sarah is getting older. She has a lot of gray Hair

3.- light hair

I have light hair. It's blonde.

4.- bald

bald (adj.) - with little or no hair on the head

I have no hair. I am bald.

5.- curly hair


I love my curly hair.

6.- straight hair

My hair is very straight. It is never curly.

7- beard

beard (n.) - the hair that grows on a man’s chin (= the bottom of his face)

I decided to grow a beard last month

8.- mustache
mustache (n.) - a line of hair above the mouth

I like to have a mustache to cover my top lip. I like the way it looks.

9.- pierced ear

pierced ear (n.) – an ear with a hole made by a sharp point

I got my ears pierced so that I can wear nice earrings.
