PROJECTS IMPACT

GOAL

• Design and construct an impact-resistant prototype that protects a delicate object from a
violent impact with a rigid surface.

CONSTRAINTS

• The object and container/packing must fit wholly through a standard hole template (Max:
71mm diameter x 300mm length).
• The mass of the total assembly must be between 50g -100g.
• NOTE: Oversized or overweight container/packing will not be tested and will a receive
“0”
• Only paper and cardboard may be used for the container/packing.
• The container/packing cannot be of adhesive, liquid, or metal – and any generated
debris must be “sweepable”.
• Your container/packing must carry the object, and protect it successfully from the violent
wall impact (100-130 km/hr).
• No tape. However, minimal amounts of glue may be used.
• The entire projectile must leave the barrel and come in contact with the rigid surface.

CRITERIA

• The container/packing is to be well crafted, and the impact of the projectile is to be

deliberate and considered.
• The container must be tested by Instructor during scheduled time (ABSOLUTELY NO LATE
SUBMISSIONS)
• Any failures to abide by constraints will result in reduced marks (-2 for every offence).
• See marking criteria.

DELIVERABLE

• Submission form (if applicable).

• Test in class.
