Car Colours

Part A
Neymar stood at his gate observing cars driving by. He observed the number of cars and the
different colours of these cars, as shown below.

a) Help Neymar to create a table showing the colour of each car and the number of cars per
colour. Use tally marks to assist you in sorting the data.

PREPARED BY SEYMOUR S. HAMILTON, E.O. – C.C.U - MOEY 1

b) Assist Neymar in representing the information in the table on a suitable graph.

OR

c) Using your graph, answer the following questions:

(i) How many more red cars did Neymar observed than yellow cars?

8–2=6
(ii) What colour car was the most popular that Neymar observed passing by?

Red and Black

(iii) What is the total number of cars with colours black, white and blue that Neymar
observed?

8 + 5 + 6 = 19

Part B
Krystal did a similar observation as Neymar and gathered the information shown below.

a) Help Krystal to arrange her data using a table.

b) Represent the data for Neymar and Krystal using one single graph.

PREPARED BY SEYMOUR S. HAMILTON, E.O. – C.C.U - MOEY 3

c) Using your graph, answer the following questions:

(i) What is the most popular car colour based on the combined number of cars
observed by Neymar and Krystal?

Blue
(ii) How many more white colour cars did Krystal observed than Neymar?

8–5=3
(iii)What colour car had the same number of cars observed by Neymar and Krystal?

Yellow

Wooden Blocks
Part A

The diagram shows a building wooden block own by Christopher with the following dimensions,
1 cm long, 1 cm wide and 1 cm high.

1 cm
1 cm
1 cm

a) How many faces does the wooden block have? Six (6)

b) How many vertices does the wooden block have? Eight (8)

c) How many edges does the wooden block have? Cube

d) What geometric name can be given to the wooden block?

Twelve (12)
e) (i) What is the volume of the wooden block?

1 cubic centimetre or 1 cm3

(ii) Show how you arrived at your answer.

Volume of wooden block

= 1 cm x 1 cm x 1 cm
3
= 1 cm

PREPARED BY SEYMOUR S. HAMILTON, E.O. – C.C.U - MOEY 5

Part B
Christopher has started to build the shape outlined below using his 1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚
wooden blocks.

a) What is the geometric name of the shape outlined?

Rectangular Prism or Cuboid

b) How many 1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚 wooden blocks will fit on layer A, as shown in the
shape outlined?
Fifteen (15)
c) (i) How many 1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚 wooden blocks will he need to fill the entire
shape outlined?
Sixty (60)
(ii) Explain how you get your answer.

Layer A requires 15 (1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚 )
wooden blocks. There are 3 similar layers that
would require 15 (1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚) each.
That is, 4 × 15 = 60
OR
Number of (1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚 × 1 𝑐𝑚 ) wooden blocks
require = 5 × 3 × 4 = 60.

Part C
Christopher wants to wrap his Geometric shape using paper.

4 cm

3 cm
5 cm

(a) What is the surface area of the geometric shape, in square centimetres?
Show how you arrive at your answer.

Surface area of Cuboid

= Sum of the areas of all Rectangles
2
= (15 + 20 + 15 + 20 + 12 + 12) cm
2
= 94 cm

PREPARED BY SEYMOUR S. HAMILTON, E.O. – C.C.U - MOEY 7

(b) Paper is sold at $14.85 per square centimetre, what is the total cost for the paper that will
be used to wrap Christopher’s geometric shape?

Show all working.

2
Cost per cm = $14.85
2
Cost for 94 cm of wrapping paper
= $14.85 × 94
= $1395.90
