THEWONDERSOF CURIOSITY
Observation
Child A is a preschooler exploring nature. They use this
opportunity to explore the natural world daily and engage in
the natural sensory experiences. This forest nature
experience can help children's social, emotional, and
physical development when playing outdoors. Child A is
kneeling on their knee with their left hand extended and
mouth open. Child A is looking on at the bird feeding from
their hand.

Interpretation
According to our observation, Child A seems to be showing
excitement about feeding the bird. It seems that Child A has
never been in close contact with a bird and is making a
surprised facial expression.

observation
Child A is a preschooler outside doing exploration at the
Humber Arboretum. Child A saw a snail and said “it’s dying,
it’s coming up, look look it’s coming out”. Child A said “where
is it going, where is it going”. Child A said “it’s getting bigger,
oh she is taken a shell on her back”. Child A listen and then
said “and she going to the hole, yes let’s go let’s go.

Interpretation
According to our observation child A seem thrilled to see the
snail. By their reaction it seem child A has never seen a snail
in real time and wanted to know as much as they can about
it. Child A was curios about the snail and wanted to know
about the snail. They asked the teacher questions and made
some observation about the snail.

1. WHAT INTERESTED/ENGAGED
CHILDREN?
The children from the article all seem to be interested in the land and
the families that we share the land with. By helping children become
engaged in the land we can teach them new things, while also
providing sensory and inclusive learning experiences, as well as
create a bond between the children and the nature around them. In
the first picture the children are at the small area where water had
accumulated by rain. The children may have seen the lake or a beach
but there is a chance that they may never been so close to open
water. There are engaging with the water and anything that may be
in the water using stick.
2.WHAT WAS EMERGING?

The children’s curiosity was emerging. Being outside and engaging

with the land and experiencing with the land, they are seeing many
things for the first time and questions start to form. The children may
notice something they did not notice before, this can further enhance
their skills and strengths outside. Exploring the land makes the
children go beyond their imagination. For example, explains to them
the importance of snail when they are in the water and why does the
snail have a swirly shell on their bodies. By using descriptive words
and reading stories to relate to the experiences being had outside,
children will become more curious and inquisitive about the things
around them.
3.WHAT WERE THE DYNAMICS AMONG CHILDREN? AMONG
CHILDREN AND EDUCATOR? AMONG CHILDREN AND OTHER
THAN HUMAN?

The dynamics among the child on where they share curiosity. They were all
experiencing the same thing, they may all have the same questions or
they may not. They are working together to figure out some of the
questions they have. You can see 6 children carrying a long stick, so there
is team work among the children.
The dynamics among the the children and the educator is one where the
educator is seen as the point of information. When a child does not know
something they will try to get the answer from an adult, and you can see
that dynamics in the video. The child wanted to know more about the snail,
and was asking the educator questions they did not know the answer to.
4.WHAT QUESTIONS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE
CHILDREN?
How deep do you think the water is? How can we find out.
Where do you think the snail is going?
Without seeing something how can you know how it looks?
What other animal has a shell on their back?
Do you want to learn more about a snail?
Why do you think it needs a shell on it’s back?
What are the different types feelings (texture) you can find?
Where do snails live?
Why are we gentle with the creatures and land outside?
What is wind?
ROLE OF THE EDUCATOR
Creating a welcoming setting that encourages play
and discovery, allowing educators a comfortable and
inclusive environment to work with children and their
parents.

Educators can facilitate opportunities for students to

connect with nature through outdoor experiences, field
trips, and nature-based activities. These experiences
help students develop a sense of wonder and
appreciation for the natural world.

The educators should spark children’s interest and

curiosity, further expand their understanding by using
questions to encourage children in discovering their
own.
