Recreational and Medicinal Drugs

Eximo
Eximo is a non-addictive narcotic used to treat stress in humans. It is often prescribed to
executives and government officials who tend to overwork. It works by prolonging the time
until fatigue sets in. In game terms this adds an extra 4 hours per dose to the standard rules on
P76. However only 2 doses in 24hours are effective. Beyond that it begins to act like a mild
sedative.

Cost: 30Cr for a pack of three doses is standard.

Hallex
Hallex is a controlled substance which induces heightened senses and euphoria in those who
dose themselves with it, but it can come at a cost.

It only works on Humans and Asari in general. It has no effect on Krogans or Batarians, acts
as a mild stimulant on Quarians and Turians (pg76), and its effects and side effects are
doubled on Salarians (who usually take a half dose as a result).

A character who takes a dose of Hallex will remove fatigue (see P76 of the main Traveller
Rules) and gains a +1 on their INT characteristic for three to four hours (this may also boost
their dice modifiers for rolls relating to Int for that time). The character will also find
themselves in a state of euphoria and should roleplay being significantly more positive about
life and their surroundings in general. As the dose wears off they will feel depressed and
tired, gaining a Bane to all dice checks until he or she gets a night's rest.

Taking more than 2 doses of Hallex in 24 hours will also result in 1 damage point being taken
from the second dose onwards. Hallex comes in pill format – one pill equals one dose.

Cost: Legally with a doctor's prescription (or where it is not controlled) it costs Cr50 per
dose. Illegally, it varies from Cr. 100 to Cr. 400 per dose depending on whom you buy it
from, and how strict the laws are in their location.

Minagen X3

Minagen X3 is a highly illegal chemical that enhances biotics. The degree of enhancement is
in proportion to the amount of exposure to the substance. However, Minagen X3 is lethal to
the user in large quantities. Minagen X3 is red in colour and comes in a gaseous form that has
to be inhaled. It seems to work on most species.

However, the gaseous Minagen X3 is also highly volatile and is stored in secure canisters for
transport in large quantities as it is prone to explode upon contact (shooting, fire etc).

In game terms, it adds 1D6 points to an existing Biotic’s score (it doesn’t work on non-
biotics) for 30 minutes per dose.

More than three doses in 24 hours will cause 1 point of damage per dose with only natural
healing and rest rest able to restore the character’s health.

Exposure to Minagen gas that is able to envelop a character or item also reduces kinetic
barrier shield by 2 points.

Omega-Enkaphalin
Omega-Enkaphalin is a biotic-suppressing drug secretly developed by Cerebus’s “Project
Trapdoor” in 2169 CE. Omega-enkaphalin (abbreviated O-E) can be administered in small
dosages to gradually reduce a biotic's powers for a limited time, although permanent damage
is possible. Cerberus experimented on Asari captives with O-E.
Eash dose reduces biotic scores by 1D3 for 1 hour. For every four doses in 24 hours there is a
small possibility that the reduction is permanent (Difficultly 12 on 2D2 using Biotic score
modifiers)

It is thought that Cerberus instils its operatives with resistance to O-E using nanosurgery, but
the details are not known.

Red sand
Red sand is a stimulant with biotic-enhancing properties. Its abuse is disproportionately high
among non-biotic friends and relatives of biotics, often out of a misguided desire to
understand what their loved ones are experiencing. Red sand was originally created by
criminal triads on Mars from refined element zero and may take its name from the planet. As
eezo is also used to create medicines, red sand's creation may have been a "fortunate" lab
mistake.

When taken nasally, red sand creates a brief but intense euphoria and gives the user very
short-term telekinetic biotic abilities (For 1 hour, the user can be assumed to have a standard
biotic Amp, and randomly select 2 powers from the following:

Roll 2D6, rerolling duplicate results

 2-3 - Barrier
 3-4 - Charge
 4-5 - Levitate
 6 - Lift
 7-8 - Melee
 9 - Shockwave
 10-11 - Throw
 12 - Warp

The user’s biotic score is also temporarily increased by 1d6).

Side effects include red-tinting of the user's vision, discolouration of the teeth and longer-
term withdrawal symptoms. Red sand is normally sold in small bags. The slang expression
for using it is "dusting up" or being "sand-blasted". Asari and Batarians are immune to red
sand, whilst humans are the only race confirmed to be susceptible to its effects. Batarians are
known to buy addicts as slaves when the addicts can no longer afford to support their habit.
Recreational and Medicinal Drugs

Cost: Typically, between Cr800and Cr1000 for a bag of 2 doses. Dealers are known to
increase prices after users become addicted. Highly illegal almost everywhere in Council
space, with severe punishments in Alliance-controlled space for possession and distribution.
The one exception in Council space is Illium, where it is possible to buy and sell it with the
right kind of hard-to-get permits.
