References:

a. Map Reference, Fort Knox

b. ATP 3-21.8, Infantry Platoon and Squad, APR16
c. FM 3-90, Tactics, MAY 23
Time Zone Used Throughout Order: ROMEO (Fort Knox, KY Local, Eastern Standard
Time).

Grid Coordinates Used Throughout the Order: UTM MGRS (16S EH)

Task Organization: Bravo Company comprises 1PLT, 2PLT, 3PLT, and 4PLT; no
attachments or detachments exist. Each PLT has four total squads: three maneuver
SQDs and one Weapons SQD.

1. SITUATION.

a. The country of Atropia’s newly elected government has requested the assistance
of NATO coalition forces to combat the military aggression and hostile takeover that its
neighboring country, Ariana, is inflicting due to land ownership disputes after natural
energy resources were discovered along their borders. European security forces have
taken heavy losses and are unable to secure their border against the Ariana military.
Elements of 1st Company, Ariana 3251st Special-Purpose Forces (SPF) Brigade
(Airborne) have been conducting operations within Atropia to seize key terrain and road
networks, disrupt coalition forces, and set the conditions for a 1st Mech (Ariana) attack
into Atropia planned for later this summer IOT control the land enriched with natural
energy resources. The SPF is tasked to establish and defend command nodes,
communications sites, firing positions, UAV launch sites, and weapon caches with our
Area of Operation (AO), AO WOLVERINE.

b. Area of Interest. The Area of Interest extends approximately 2 km beyond our

area of operations and includes regions of Ariana that provide logistics, personnel, and
moral support to the Ariana military. This area also provides fire support assets ranging
from indirect mortar fires within AO WOLVERINE.

c. Area of Operations: AO WOLVERINE. See ANNEX C - AO WOLVERINE Map.

1) Terrain.

a) Obstacles. There are no known obstacles in the AO; however, small

streams and flash flood areas may become significant obstacles to dismounted
operations after persistent precipitation.
UNCLASSIFIED FOR TRAINING ONLY

b) Avenues of Approach. RTE 1638 in the South of the AO runs east to west
and is a hardball road that can support two combat vehicles abreast, moving at speeds
up to 60kph. Within the AO, one unimproved road, MSR RIVER, runs generally north to
south, allowing one combat vehicle to travel up to 30kph.

c) Key Terrain. None are identified in the CO AO currently.

d) Observation and Fields of Fire. Observation within the CO AO varies

greatly. Along roads and trails, observation can approach 400-600m and provide good
fields of fire for all weapon systems oriented along these linear features. Once in the
wooded area, observation is generally reduced to 30-150m, depending on vegetation
type; fields of fire are similarly reduced in these areas.

e) Cover and Concealment. Cover and concealment are excellent from

numerous old-growth trees in most wooded areas. Dense vegetation and tall grasses in
many other regions provide excellent concealment but limited cover from enemy
weapon systems.

2) Weather. See Appendix 1 (Weather, Light, and Lunar Data) to Annex B

(Intelligence).

d. Enemy Forces. Ariana SPFs are currently operating within AO WOLVERINE.

They have been working and building combat power on the European side of the border
with limited disruption for more than a week.

1) Composition: An Ariana PLT consists of approximately 30 Soldiers arranged

into four maneuver squads. An NCO leads each squad, which consists of 6-9
personnel, organized into two fire teams of 3-4 personnel. Each fire team has an M249
LMG (800m Max Effective Range) and possibly an RPG-7V (Max Effective Range
500m). Each SQD has a portable FM radio ranging from 1-2km, and many Soldiers
possess older cell phone technology that operates on rudimentary satellite networks.
The weapons squad comprises 5-7 personnel arranged into two-gun teams of 2-3
personnel. Each Gun team carries the M240B MMG (1800m Max effective range).
When operating at the SQD and Team level, the MMG Teams will likely be attached to
SQDs performing defensive tasks. Their disciplined use of Ariana Army uniforms (Black
Uniform Tops) makes them easily identifiable. Most Ariana Soldiers wear boonie hats,
chest racks, and desert or woodland camouflage military-style pants.

2) Disposition. Intelligence reports that a reinforced rifle company with up to four

Infantry PLTs and eight mortar teams are present in AO WOLVERINE. UAV thermal
imagery indicates numerous squad and fire team-sized elements dispersed within the
wooded terrain near road critical networks for controlling foot and vehicular traffic into
the AO. Additional fire team-sized elements have been identified deeper within the
forests. They are suspected weapon caches and quick reaction forces to support other
aspects operating closer to the road networks within 10-15 minutes.
UNCLASSIFIED FOR TRAINING ONLY

3) Capabilities:

a) Maneuver. Ariana forces are well-trained and tactically proficient at the

SQD and Team level and operate independently with limited guidance. They have
limited night vision capabilities.

b) Fires. Ariana elements are supported by capable mortar teams that can
usually deliver indirect fire support within 15 minutes of a fire call using light and
medium mortar systems (range 3200m). Every PLT is directly supported by at least one
mortar element in their AO.

c) Intelligence. Ariana forces can access UAVs to identify the Coalition

force’s positions and movements. Ariana forces have limited signal intelligence
capabilities.

d) Sustainment. Ariana Soldiers are well fed, rested, and equipped with US
and threat weapon systems with ample ammunition for each and usually resupply from
caches within their unit’s AO. Ariana forces lack extensive medical support or
evacuation assets.

e) Mission Command. Ariana elements operate at the TM and SQD level

under the loose direction of PLT and CO HQ with short-range FM communications and
cell phones. The Ariana Reserve element in the CO AO can reinforce any position in the
AO WOLVERINE within 40 minutes. Smaller quick reaction forces embedded at the
PLT AOs can respond within 10-15 minutes. Long Range Communications sites and C2
nodes are established to provide redundant communications capabilities to higher HQs
in Ariana to support future operations.

f) Most Likely Course of Action: Ariana forces will continue to conduct

defensive operations in the AO to maintain their established positions (mortar firing
points, mission command nodes, communications sites, cache sites, or securing key
terrain that controls the road network. They often try to break contact once a direct
assault begins if their reinforcements are not in the immediate area. If they lose control
of a defensive position, they will likely attempt to retake it within 3-5 hours to regain the
position and equipment. Ariana elements aggressively conduct reconnaissance of
Coalition forces activities to gain intelligence to support future offensive operations.
Ariana forces will seek contact with Coalition forces to disrupt movements and
operations. They will attack static locations (patrol bases, defensive positions) with SQD
and Team-size elements to disrupt operations.

g) Most Dangerous Course of Action: Ariana forces consolidate at the PLT

level and coordinate an attack using UAV and fire support assets, resulting in
overwhelming firepower on a static Coalition force’s position.

e. Friendly Forces.
UNCLASSIFIED FOR TRAINING ONLY

1) Higher Headquarters Two Levels Up.

a) Mission. CJTF-100 (Coalition Joint Forces Command-100) will conduct

offensive and defensive operations in the area of responsibility (AOR) over the next 90
days. IOT will transfer the security of Atropia back to Atropian Security Forces.

b) Commander’s Intent. Our operations aim to assist the Atropian Security

Forces in eliminating threats to their people, land, and government so they may secure
their country from Ariana military threats without direct coalition intervention.

c) Key Tasks.

1. Defeat Ariana forces positioned in Atropia and regain control of key

terrain.

2. Establish positive relationships with Atropian Security Forces, local civil

officials, and other host nation personnel to provide Coalition forces legitimacy and
freedom of action in the AOR.

3. Defend Coalition and Atropian forces.

4. Partner with host nation security forces at every level to train, advise,
and assist these forces to improve their ability to conduct security operations.

d) Endstate. The CJTF-100 AOR is under the control of European Security

Forces, capable of accomplishing basic security tasks. No Arianan military forces at the
PLT level or above remain in our AOR. SAPA does not have the support of the
surrounding population. No civilian humanitarian crisis exists.

2) Higher Headquarters One Level Up.

a) Mission. 1st Infantry Regiment, CJTF-100, conducts offensive operations

to destroy Ariana forces in AO WOLVERINE over the next 96 hours IOT to build combat
power and regain security within the AO.

b) Commander’s Intent. Our operations aim to set the conditions to turn the
AO over to the Atropian Security Forces after eliminating organized Ariana forces in the
AO.

c) Key Tasks.

1. Locate and destroy Arianan forces in AO WOLVERINE.

2. Treat the local populace with dignity and respect and engage them
when appropriate to gain intelligence.
UNCLASSIFIED FOR TRAINING ONLY

3. Maintain an offensive mindset and conduct defensive operations to

prevent Ariana forces from counterattacking and seizing key terrain or regaining
supplies.

4. Strict adherence to the Rules of Engagement to prevent unnecessary

loss of Coalition, Atropian Security Forces, and civilian life and property.

3) Adjacent Unit Missions:

a) A Company destroys Ariana forces in AO ALPHA for 96 hours to secure

key terrain and set conditions for building combat power to transition security to
Atropian Security Forces.

b) C Company destroys Ariana forces in AO CHARLIE for the next 96 hours

to secure key terrain and set conditions for building up combat power that will enable
the transition of security to Atropian Security Forces.

c) D Company destroys Ariana forces in AO DELTA for the next 96 hours to

secure key terrain and set conditions for building up combat power to transition security
to Atropian Security Forces.

4) Interagency, Intergovernmental, and Nongovernmental Organizations. We

need a solid understanding of the presence of non-military entities in the AO. None are
known at this time but may present themselves at any time.

5) Civil Considerations. Small properties comprise metal hutments, wooden

shacks, and military-style tents, with a few personnel living within AO WOLVERINE.
These areas are off-limits to military operations. Some abandoned structures remain
intact throughout the AO, but it is not believed the enemy is using them. Civilians may
re-enter the AO in order to secure belongings or property, gather livestock, or occupy
their homes. Avoid causing civilian casualties or causing damage to civilian property or
infrastructure whenever feasible. The erosion of civil support will impair our ability to
complete our mission.

6) Attachments and Detachments. None.

2. MISSION. B Company, 1st Infantry Regiment, CJTF-100, destroys enemy forces

operating within AO BRAVO for the next 45 days to secure key terrain and set
conditions for building combat power to transition security to Atropian Security Forces.

3. EXECUTION.

a. Commander’s Intent. Deny the enemy from having freedom of maneuver and
control of crucial terrain within the AO.

b. Key Tasks.
UNCLASSIFIED FOR TRAINING ONLY

1) Destroy Ariana’s forces within AO BRAVO.

2) Conduct detailed planning and effective rehearsals to ensure our forces are
ready to execute the mission and react to contingencies.

3) Integrate fires and other enablers into the maneuver plan.

4) Develop opportunities through intelligence gained during encounters with

Arianan forces.

5) Establish and maintain an appropriate security posture.

c. Endstate: Ariana forces are degraded, isolated, and unable to conduct military
operations. Friendly troops are poised to conduct combat power-building operations.
Our initial operation does not significantly impact civilians and their property.

d. Concept of the Operation. B Company will accomplish its mission by conducting

four near-simultaneous PLT missions within AO BRAVO. The destruction of each
enemy SQD or Fire Team operating at known locations is decisive to the operation. One
PLT (Main Effort (ME)) conducts a raid to destroy an Ariana weapons cache at OBJ
CHIEF. Another PLT (Shaping Effort (SE) 1) attacks to destroy an Ariana UAV launch
site at OBJ NINER. Another PLT (SE2) conducts an ambush to eliminate an Arianan
logistics resupply near OBJ RAVEN. The remaining PLT (SE3) moves to contact near
OBJ LION to destroy an Ariana communications node. Fires will be coordinated to
disrupt the enemy at fixed locations before our assault. At the end of the operation, all
enemy elements will be destroyed, and PLTs will have secured patrol bases in
preparation for future operations.

e. Scheme of Movement and Maneuver.

1) 2PLT (ME) conducts a raid to destroy enemy forces and weapons cache and
collect intelligence on the enemy on OBJ CHIEF, vicinity grid 16S EH 86830 02460, to
deny the enemy from conducting resupply operations and offensive attacks against
friendly forces.

2) 4PLT (SE1) attacks to destroy enemy forces and seize key terrain at OBJ
NINER, vicinity grid 16S EH 87570 02890, to deny the enemy’s ability to gather
intelligence with UAVs.

3) 3PLT (SE2) conducts a deliberate point ambush to destroy enemy forces on

OBJ RAVEN, vicinity grid 16S EH 87370 02490, to deny the enemy’s freedom of
maneuver and disrupt their supply chains within the AO.

4) 1PLT (SE3) conducts a movement-to-contact (search and attack technique)

to destroy enemy forces and radio equipment within OBJ LION, near grid 16S EH 8735
0348, to deny enemy radio communication capabilities within the AO.
UNCLASSIFIED FOR TRAINING ONLY

f. Scheme of Fires. Disrupt and suppress the enemy to allow our PLTs to
maneuver and assault. We will use our organic company 81mm Mortar Section, which
can range anywhere within AO WOLVERINE.

1) Fire's priorities are Bravo Co, Charlie Co, Delta Co, and Alpha Co.

2) Allocation: Each PLT can pre-plan up to 5 indirect fire targets supporting their
mission. Each PLT submits its target requests with location, tactical fire task, and
purpose to the CO CP (PLT OC/T) before SP.

3) Restriction: All fires must be observed—no pre-planned fires within 250m of

known civilian structures or personnel. Indirect fires can only cross unit boundaries with
prior coordination—no cratering munitions on roadways.

g. Scheme of Intelligence. The most recent UAV aerial image of the AO is provided;
additional photos and updates will be provided as they become available for specific
missions. An extensive network of Human Intelligence (HUMINT) and Signals
Intelligence (SIGINT) operates in the AO, providing periodic updates regarding Arianan
force disposition. This intelligence will be supplied to PLTs as it becomes available.
PLTs should gain additional intelligence by exploiting encounters with Arianan forces.
Thorough personnel searches of killed and wounded enemy, searching of OBJs, and
observation of enemy activities during reconnaissance operations should be passed to
the CO HQ IAW Reporting requirements and CCIR. Although civilian presence in AO
WOLVERINE is limited and contact with civilians should be avoided where possible,
when contact is inevitable, units should safeguard mission and unit information from
civilians that might provide information to the enemy. Also, question civilians for
information regarding the enemy that may be useful to our operations.
