DOG TANK TOP TUTORIAL - sewing dog clothes pattern step by step

This is a basic tank top for your four legged love, and even if you are a beginner you will sew
a fantastic piece for your dog! Because no amazing sewing skills are needed and even if the
final result doesn’t look good your beautiful pet will make it look cute and adorable anyway.
You are a trustworthy dog tailor and this is going to be fast and easy.

❤️MATERIALS:
-Fabric: 60 cm x 80 cm max (24 x 32 inches max): I recommend printing and measuring your
pattern first, so you do not buy unnecessary fabric. Medium stretch knitted fabric is
recommended.
❤️MEASURING YOUR CAT:
In order to sew this pattern, you need a little patience to take your cat’s next measurements:
1.Neck girth: from the widest part of his neck, where the collar would naturally sit.
2.Chest girth: from the widest part of his chest.
3.Back length: from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.

Chest circumference is the most important measurement and the one that should fit your
cat perfectly to correctly choose their size.

❤️SIZE CHARTS:
Choose the right size for your “gatito” on the size chart. If your cat doesn’t fit exactly on the
size chart you can easily modify the pattern as I will show you later. These measurements
are exactly the measurements of the pattern so you can choose how much ease to give to
your shirt, depending on the type of fabric you are using.

❤️PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS:
-Print the pattern without any margins and set the scale of your printer to actual size (see
image below). IF YOU ARE USING US LETTER PAPER, PRINT THE US LETTER PDF FILE. IF
YOU ARE USING A4 PAPER, PRINT THE A4 PDF FILE. This step is crucial so the pattern prints
properly, otherwise, the pattern won’t match or there will be missing parts.

-I’ve included 5 cm and 1 inch squares so you can test that your pattern is printed on the
right size.
-Lay out the entire pages and tape them together. DO NOT CUT BEFORE TAPING THEM
TOGETHER.

MATCHING YOUR PATTERN: I’ve included two ways to help you align your pattern:

-Diamonds with numbers and letters: Notice the grey diamonds with letters and numbers on
the edges of the pages and match them, for example:
-Letter A from the first page matches letter A from the second page (red rectangle on the
image below).
-Number 1 from the first page matches number 1 from the page below (red rectangle on the
image below).

-Every page contains a number and a letter on the left bottom angle and they should match
like this:
First row of pages: 1A,1B,1C, etc… (green rectangle on the image below)
Second row of pages: 2A, 2B, 2C, etc… (fuchsia rectangle on the image below).
Once you have taped the pages together, you can cut the pattern of your chosen size. It is
possible that you see a clear area (5mm approximately) on the edges of your pages where
the printer was not able to print. It is very important that you do not cut this area, because it
is also part of your pattern. You can easily draw that area but it uses to be so small that this
step is not necessary.

Once the pattern is printed, the triangles should be the same size, as shown on the image
below. If you notice that the triangles have different sizes on each page and your pattern
doesn’t match, you have not printed it correctly or you have used an incorrect paper size.
❤️MODIFYING THE PATTERN:
It is possible that your cat doesn’t fit the pattern, and there is nothing wrong about it, they
come in all sizes and shapes! But there are good news! You can modify the pattern so it fits
perfectly to your beloved friend.

-Shorten/lengthen: Shorten or lengthen the desired quantity on both parts of the piece.

-Chest circumference adjustment: Add or subtract ¼ of the desired quantity to each of the
side seams by drawing a parallel line. For example, if you would like to make the chest
circumference 4 cm smaller, subtract 1 cm to each one of the side seams.

❤️CUTTING THE FABRIC:

I recommend you to first try the pattern on your cat using paper or an old piece of fabric, so
you can be sure that it fits them before cutting your real fabric.
-This pattern includes 1cm seam allowance.
-Iron your fabric before cutting! Never ignore this step because it makes a big difference.

Please cut the following pieces:

-FRONT: 1 piece on fold.
-BACK: 1 piece on fold.
-SLEEVE: 2 pieces.
-WAISTBAND: 1 piece on fold.
-NECK: 1 piece on fold.

This is how your pieces should look like:

❤️SEWING INSTRUCTIONS:
In order to sew elastic fabrics, you will need to use a zigzag stitch or an overlocker machine.
1: Sew the shoulder seams and the lateral seams.

2: This step applies to the neck, bottom band and armhole pieces: Separately, sew the
edges of the piece together and then fold the piece on the foldline. The right side of the
fabric must be on the outside.

3: Insert and sew the resulting pieces on the neckhole, armhole and bottom of the tank top,
as shown on the image:
Notice where the open and folded sides of the neck and armhole pieces are:

4: You have already finished your shirt! Now your kitten can be warm and comfortable in
winter.
