SUNfarming Agri-Solar systems contribute to a higher biodiversity.

Benefits for the biodiversity

Creation of new
Soil recovery
habitats

• No fertilizers
• Extensive permanent grassland • Formation of humus
• Insect population increases • Erosion prevention
• Pollination for agriculture • CO2 binding
• Food for breeding birds
Thanks to the Agri-Solar concept, which allows dual land use, the agricultural status of
the land is maintained
SUNfarming Agri-Solar concept according to „DIN SPEC 91434“ Agri-PV Standard

• SUNfarming bifacial glass-glass modules for > 1.000 kWp / ha

higher light transmittance

• Special substructure with rainwater

distribution under the modules, improving
available soil moisture for the plantings

• The minimum height allows the cultivation of a

wide range of vegetable varieties in total
comfort

• Frost, hail and heavy rain protection as well

as partial shading for plants and animals

• Small tractors and other machines can still

operate (3m width).

• Electricity yield is close to traditional free-field

photovoltaic systems, achieving good
profitability in terms of electricity production

www.sunfarming.de 6
The rainwater management system ensures a homogeneous distribution along the
modules, prevents soil erosion and offers the possibility of water storage
SUNfarming rainwater distribution system

www.sunfarming.de 7
The wide distribution of water together with natural light increases the photosynthetic
performance and thus promotes plant growth among the modules

higher vegetation underneath the modules lower vegetation between the module rows due to
stronger sunlight, causing a reduced soil humidity

The structures offer additional crop protection. Rainwater distribution can be combined
with high-efficiency drip irrigation.
SUNfarming Agri-Solar: horticultural production

www.sunfarming.de 10
PV modules serve as climate protection elements, while allowing the growth of
pastures. It is possible to compartmentalize spaces by taking advantage of the
structures themselves, without the need for extra fencing.
SUNfarming Agri-Solar: cattle farming

www.sunfarming.de 11
The space created under the structures can easily be converted into a chicken coop by
adding a few extra elements and fencing off the sides.

Synergy effects are created in fruit growing through partial shading and weather
protection, increasing yields
SUNfarming Umbrella concept for fruit trees cultivation

• Use of SUNfarming bifacial glass- X

glass modules in south and east-west
orientation

• light plates can be added to further

increase light transmittance, if
required

• Frost, hail and heavy rain protection

and partial shading for plants

• Applicable to various row crops e. g.

pome fruit, stone fruit, berries, wine
and other woody plants

All SUNfarming concepts are being continuously developed at our own research and
development center in Rathenow, near Berlin
SUNfarming Research Center Rathenow

• All SUNfarming Agri-, Eco- and Moor-Solar as well as carports and roof systems are continuously tested
• More than 20 different crops are simultaneously grown under the agri-solar systems and three different
animal species are kept all year round
• Research projects with partners in different areas, including crop cultivation, agri-robotics and aquaponic
systems

www.sunfarming.de 15
SUNfarming also develops innovative special photovoltaic solutions
SUNfarming floating-solar

• The SUNfarming Floating Solar concept is ideally suited for artificial water reservoirs, lakes and peatland and
also for marshes
• It enables the generation of green electricity in harmony with the water ecology while reducing water
evaporation.
• In North-Rhine-Westphalia, a 780kWp system is currently being installed on a gravel lake.
