CLOVES

Clove is a spice plant that has played an

important role for hundreds of years as a food
and medicinal ingredient. Indonesia as a spice-
producing country has a huge opportunity to
become a provider of spices in international
trade, especially the European Union market.
Indonesia's clove export position ranks third
after Singapore and Madagasar. In Indonesia,
clove plants are widely cultivated in the
provinces of North Sulawesi, Maluku and other
areas that comply with the requirements for
growing clove plants. The need for cloves,
especially for cigarette factories, is estimated
at 110,000 to 120,000 tons per year and the
demand for European export markets increases
every year. This is an opportunity to increase
clove productivity.

GINGER

Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc) is an annual

herb with high economic value. These plants
are generally harvested in the age range of 8-12
months, depending on needs. For fresh
consumption, for example for cooking spices,
ginger is harvested at the age of 8 months. If
for the purposes of harvesting seeds aged 10
months or more. However, if for pickled ginger
and ginger to be preserved, ginger plants are
harvested at a young age, namely 3-4 months.
Ginger is also needed as raw material for
traditional medicines and phytopharmaca. The
net profit of a ginger cultivation business can
reach Rp. 21 million more/ha.

BLACKPAPER

Indonesia is the largest supplier country in the

international pepper market. Nearly 90% of the
pepper plantation area in Indonesia is owned
by smallholders with an area of 177,064
hectares, a total production of 193,388 tons in
2021. As the second largest contributing
province after the Bangka Belitung Islands,
Lampung has an area of 46,847 ha with a
production of 14,698 tons spread across
districts of West Lampung, North Lampung,
Tanggamus, West Coast and East Lampung.
With a wide enough potential, there are
opportunities for farmers to increase added
value by processing pepper properly and
correctly, so that quality pepper is produced.
There are 3 types of pepper processing
products, namely black, white and green
pepper, of the 3 types of preparations known
only black and white pepper. Meanwhile,
processed pepper from Lampung Province is
known as Lampung black pepper.

VANILLA

Vanilla is a spice plant with high economic

value derived from a relative of the orchid
plant with the scientific name Vanilla
planifolia Andrews (Kartikawati &
Rosman, 2018). Vanilla is commonly used
as a raw material in various industries
such as food, beverages, pharmaceuticals,
perfumes, and traditional crafts (FAO,
2009). Vanilla comes from the regions of
Central America and South America as
indicated by the green color on the map.
However, currently vanilla has been
widely cultivated in several countries such
as Indonesia, Madagascar and several
other tropical countries.

CINNAMON STICK

Cinnamon (Cinnamomumverum, sin. C.

zeylanicum) is a type of tree that produces spices.
Cinnamon is usually used for flavoring dishes
because cinnamon is aromatic, spicy and sweet.
Apart from being a flavor enhancer, cinnamon is
useful as a medicine such as reducing blood sugar
levels, inhibiting blood clotting and so on.

Some types of cinnamon can grow at an altitude of

up to 2,000 meters above sea level (m asl), but
cinnamon will produce well if planted in areas with
an altitude of 500 – 1,500 m.asl. If planted in an
area less than 500 m above sea level, the plants
will grow faster but the quality of the bark is low,
the thickness of the skin and the aroma is less
when compared to when planted in a higher area.
Cinnamon type C zeylanicum, grows well at
altitudes between 0 – 500 m above sea level.

opportunities. Coffee is an annual plant
that can reach a productive age of up to
20 years. Coffee is the most widely traded
plantation crop commodity, soit'sno

cultivated. These coffee cultivation
centers are located in Latin America,Asia-
Pacific, Central America and Africa.

coffee plants that are widely used,
namely Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica),

RbD PALM OLEIN

Oil palm is a plantation crop that has a

dual function, namely apart from being
a plant with high economic value, a
source of income, employment, non-oil
and gas export income (the export
value of palm oil is greater than the
export value of agricultural products
outside of palm oil), as one of the staple
foods, as well as as a medium for
preserving nature and the
environment, including conserving
groundwater resources, preventing
landslides, producing oxygen (O2),
absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions and the demand for bio-
diesel will increase significantly as the
implementation of the national energy
policy.
