EXPERIMENT 2

Aim:

Plot output voltage and current waveform observed in a half wave rectifier controlled and uncontrolled.
Software Required :
⮚ MATLAB Version R2023A
⮚ SIMULINK

Theory:
Half-wave rectifiers transform AC voltage to DC voltage. A halfwave rectifier circuit uses only one
diode for the transformation. It is defined as a type of rectifier that allows only one-half cycle of an AC
voltage waveform to pass while blocking the other half cycle. Controlled halfwave rectifier uses
thyristor , whereas uncontrolled one uses a diode.

Output of half wave uncontrolled

Result:

Thus we find that the rectifiers are used to convert AC signal into DC pulsating signal. The full wave
rectifier is called so as the negative signal in input is also rectified to positive signal in the output.
Thefull wave rectifier is called so as the negative signal in input is also rectified to positive signal in the
output. The full-wave bridge rectifier provides efficient full-wave rectification, converting both halves
of the AC input waveform into a unidirectional DC output. This results in a smoother and more constant
DC voltage compared to a half-wave rectifier. The use of diodes in the bridge configuration results in
minimal voltage drop across the thyristors.

Precautions And Sources of Error:

1.) The software takes time to initialize so wait until the blank model is created; otherwise thesystem
may hang.

2.) A blue component cannot be connected to a black component directly for that you need aconverter
as blue is a physical model and black represents mathematical model.
