Installation time
The installation time is approx. 2.0 hours. This may vary depending on the condition of the car and the
equipment in it.
The installation time does not include any time for programming/encoding, as this depends on the age
of the car and the equipment in it.

Important information
These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation
and by authorised BMW service companies.
In any event, the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW
cars with the appropriate specialist knowledge.
All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, circuit diagrams, servicing manuals
and work instructions in a rational order using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current
health and safety regulations.
In the event of any installation or function problems, restrict the troubleshooting session to
about 0.5 hours for mechanical work or 1 hour for electrical work.
In order to reduce costs and avoid any additional expense, send a query immediately to the Technical
Parts Support via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP).
Specify the following information:
- Chassis number
- Part number of the retrofit kit
- A precise description of the problem
- Work steps already carried out
Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions since daily updates are made by ASAP!

Installation information
The SIM card must be inserted before you install the Thermo Call control module.
!
Do not insert or remove the SIM card when the Thermo Call control unit is connected to the voltage
supply. This will cause damage to the module or to the SIM card.
When you install the converter ensure that the buttons are accessible for the final initialization process.
Ensure that the cables and/or lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car. The costs
thereby incurred will not be reimbursed by BMW AG.
Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties.
If the specified PIN chambers are occupied, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals must be used.
All pictures show LHD cars; proceed accordingly on RHD cars.
Before affixing antenna D/G/U or the temperature sensor T, clean the gluing area and remember the
minimum temperature of 20°C.
If you are not installing a remote control, tie back branch H2 on wiring harness H.

Directive 95/54/CE e3*72/245*95/54*7001*00
Regulation No. 10 ECE-ONU/2 E3 10R-02 7001-00

Instructions for operating Thermo-Call

In the Federal Republic of Germany the Vodafone contract and the registration form must be completed
immediately after the car is accepted and then sent to the specified fax number.
In other countries a prepaid card must be purchased on which the PIN query can be disabled.
The phone number for Thermo Call is available from the relevant network operator.

Information about operating the independent heating

Operating the independent heating system places a strain on the battery. To avoid starting problems
and to stabilise the car’s electrical system we recommend that you drive the car adequately in the period
when you use the independent heating so that the battery remains well charged.
Recommendation: 30 minutes independent heating use = 30 minutes driving time.
Danger of poisoning! The independent heating system must not be operated in enclosed areas
!
such as garages or workshops, not even using the time switch, remote control or Thermo Call 1.1.
The independent heating must be switched off at filling stations and/or filling points to eliminate the risk
of explosions.

18. Concluding work and programming/initialization

This retrofit system does not require coding.

- Connect the battery
- Conduct a brief test

Initialize the converter I

- Close the central locking with the car’s remote control and then reopen it
- Within 5 seconds: Switch the ignition lock from terminal “0” to terminal “R” and back to terminal “0”
- Press and hold the “Off” button on the converter I
- Press the “On” button on the converter I 3 times in succession
If the initialisation has been successful the car’s central locking will lock and then open again automatically.
Precise instructions for using the remote control are set out in the separate owner’s manual.

Teaching the remote (cars with remote control T90/T100 only)

To teach the handheld transmitter A/AA, cover the antenna with your hand. The teaching process can
also be carried out with a second person who is a little way away from the car.
Teaching mode is initiated by breaking the power supply to the receiver.
- Disconnect branch H2 or branch R2 from receiver B/S for at least five seconds
- Connect branch H2 or branch R2 to receiver B/S
- Press the OFF button on the handset within five seconds for at least one second
This concludes the teaching process.
If you fail to comply with one of the above times (too long or too short), the teaching process must
be repeated.
The teaching process for other remotes (a maximum of three) is to be carried out using the same
method.

Programming the Thermo Call (cars with Thermo Call only)

- Call Thermo Call
- When you are asked to enter the password, enter the following technician password: *1901*
- Then enter the following number: *1*
This concludes the programming.
Precise instructions for using Thermo Call are set out in the separate owner’s manual.

All cars
- Re-assemble the car
