Division Overview

The Centre for Energy Assessment and Modelling (CEAM) focuses on providing energy,
economy and environment related inputs to researchers, industry, and policy makers at the
global, national and sub-national levels. Towards this end, this Division is continuously
involved in the development and use of various tools and modelling frameworks for energy
and economic forecasting, techno-economic analysis and scenarios of energy and
environmental simulation and optimization. Its activities are geared towards identifying,
analyzing, and prioritizing technology and policy options with regard to energy and the
environment through modelling of energy-environment linkages, as well as undertaking
economic and statistical analysis of energy and climate-change related data.

Position Overview

Number of positions: 2

TERI seeks to hire suitable candidate for CEAM who would contribute towards the modeling
activities of the team. The position will involve a wide variety of activities ranging from data
collection and analysis to scenario development and modeling. The successful candidate will
be providing inputs that lead to generation of alternative development pathways for India
through a variety of large-scale models including energy system models. This position offers
the candidates an opportunity to work in a competitive, rigorous, fast-paced, and
interdisciplinary environment as well as to interact with other players such as industrial
stakeholders, academicians and policymakers thereby allowing them to explore their niche
and establish themselves in this field.
Roles & Responsibilities:

The roles and responsibilities of the candidate would include a wide variety of activities
including but not limited to:

• Analysis and quantification of decarbonization policies using energy modelling.


• Analysis of energy demand through various techniques including estimation,
prediction and forecasting techniques with particular attention to inter-temporal and
spatial variations in energy demand
• Contribution towards enhancing TERI’s existing models and frameworks by
improving the model structure, updating data and forecasts, validation of model
outputs and analysis of results.
• Interacting with clients, liaising with government and non-government officials and
other stakeholders at the national and sub-national levels
• Coordinating project activities within CEAM, across other teams within TERI and
other institutions
• Publishing of reports, articles, blogs and journal articles, and presentation of results
to a wider audience including stakeholders, policymakers, and academicians
• Organizing internal and external meetings, stakeholder dialogues, workshops, and
other dissemination events
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally

Requirements:

• Strong academic record with master’s (or above) in Economics/ Statistics/ Energy/
Environmental Economics/Social Sciences, or any other relevant field with up to 5
years of related experience (freshers with masters are also encouraged to apply).
• Understanding of India’s energy sector and policies.
• Prior knowledge or experience of energy and resource economics, quantitative
modeling, and scenario designing is preferred.
• Proficiency in quantitative and statistical analysis
• Inclination towards conducting both qualitative and quantitative research.
• Ability to analyze and synthesize large datasets.
• Experience with coding languages or analytical software such as R, Python, GAMS,
or Stata is preferred.
• Good communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines and delivering
quality outputs.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a multicultural andinterdisciplinary
team with limited supervision.

Compensation:

Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and industry standards
