CarolinaLIFE Recruitment Experience with Panhellenic Council

What is the CarolinaLIFE Program? CarolinaLIFE is an individualized, non-degree

program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program
provides support and instruction in the following areas:

 academic instruction
 career education and training
 independent living
 social and community engagement
 personal development

The program philosophy is founded on inclusion and individualization, based on each

student’s interests and support needs. Our application process is simple, but selective,
and many of our students qualify for financial aid to help with tuition and other program
costs. CarolinaLIFE students have access to opportunities offered to other University of
South Carolina students such as participation in USC courses, on-campus housing,
student organizations, sporting events, work-study, and commencement.

Collaboration: The Panhellenic Council and the CarolinaLIFE Program have worked
together to create a recruitment experience for the female participants in CarolinaLIFE
that closely aligns with a traditional recruitment experience. This partnership provides
accommodations to the Panhellenic recruitment process (e.g. modified recruitment
schedule) to ensure an equitable and quality experience for the CarolinaLIFE students. If
a CarolinaLIFE student chooses to join a Panhellenic sorority she will be provided an
equitable membership, as indicated in the interest form below.
CarolinaLIFE Recruitment Experience Timeline

Spring 2023
The Panhellenic Council will review the partnership between Greek Life and the CarolinaLIFE
Program at a council meeting. The mission of this partnership is to allow every USC student to
have the opportunity to join a Panhellenic sorority. In the spring, each chapter receives an
interest form to complete in order to participate in the process. Each Panhellenic chapter that
commits to the program must receive approval from their inter/national organization. Chapters
will select a CarolinaLIFE representative. These representative will serve on each chapters
recruitment team/staff. A committee of 3-5 active members can also be selected to support the
CarolinaLIFE representative throughout all recruitment processes.

Fall 2023
The women in CarolinaLIFE will arrive on campus. In order to ensure an equitable and quality
experience for the CarolinaLIFE students the following accommodations will be made to the
Panhellenic recruitment process:
• Primary recruitment begins for CarolinaLIFE during the First Round also know as Go
Greek. The CarolinaLIFE potential new members (further reffered to as PNMs) will
create a video of themselves following prompts provided by the USC College Panhellenic
Association to showcase their individuality to the participating chapters.
• CarolinaLIFE PNMs who maximize their options will receive a bid on Panhellenic
sorority bid day.

Once she joins

CarolinaLIFE members will enjoy an equitable membership experience; however, the
CarolinaLIFE Program staff reserves the right to limit CarolinaLIFE student participation to any
activity. Benefits of membership may include:
• Participation in chapter and new member meetings
• Leadership positions within the chapter or College Panhellenic Association. For
example, involvement in committees, teams, etc.
• Participation in service and philanthropy events
• Participation in sisterhood events, such as big little reveal
