Research Proposal

Student name: Tony Li Date of proposal: 6 March 2024

Research question:

What are the moral dilemmas behind AI technology, and to what extend should it’s development and
implementation be restricted?

Reasons for interest in this area of research:

Looks at ethics, psychology, science, technology, all fields that I am very interested in.

Specific aspects (sub questions) of the topic to be researched – a breakdown of your research
question:

1. What is AI technology?

2. What are the risks of the technology? What are the benefits?

3. How can AI technology be restricted? How much does this hinder its benefits?

4. Considering its risks, as well as its benefits and opportunities, to what extend should AI technology
be limited and restricted?

Selected Capability/s – maximum of 2 (include reasoning for this Capability) and will need to get it to just
one capability eventually

Information and Technology

Identify research processes that may be appropriate to the question – with reasons

- Look at various case studies in selected industries.

- Clearly define key terminology

- Look at projections of the future from various viewpoints.

- Interview with professionals across various fields.

- Look at different universities/facilities, analyze their guidelines on AI

Safety & Ethics: Outline any possible issues and how you intend to ensure your research is safe & ethical

- Misinformation
Due to the topic being recent, extra care needs to be taken when researching the task to avoid
misinformation or inaccurate sources. As well, need to take care to avoid putting misinformation in actual
project.

- Biases
