1. INTERPOLATING CONTOURS GRAPHICALLY. The

accompanying tabulation gives elevations of
points over the area of a 30m by 40m city lot.
The elevations were obtained by the
Checkerboard Method using 10-m squares. Point
A-1 is located at the northwest corner of the
lot and point E-4 at the southeast corner. All
elevations are in meters.
Requirements:
a) Plot the contours using a horizontal scale of 6cm=10m and a contour interval of 1 meter.
b) Arrange the plotting paper so that the longer side is vertical (use 8" by 11" bond paper).
c) All corner designations and corresponding elevations must be indicated, including all vertical and
horizontal lines.
d) Show the direction of north and indicate the scale used.
e) Indicate the elevations of the following index contours: 880, 885, 890, and 895m. The thickness of the
index contours must be drawn about twice the thickness of intermediate contours.
f) Use a pencil for the initial plot and ink the final plot using a technical pen.

2. INTERPOLATING CONTOURS GRAPHICALLY. The accompanying sketch shows a tract of land

which has been subjected to a topographic survey. The elevation of critical points
are as indicated in the sketch. Assuming uniformity of slope from corner to corner
and from the center to each corner, plot the contour lines by the graphical method
(use a template). The contour line with an elevation of 30m should be shown as
points were located in plan by radiation with transit, and their elevations and
horizontal distances determined by stadia method.
Requirements:

a) Construct graphically a contour map based on

the given data by using a horizontal scale of
1:1,000 and a contour interval of 20m. A
template or an engineer's scale and triangle
may be used when interpolating contour lines.
b) Use tracing paper with dimensions of at least
30cm by 50cm.
c) Indicate the elevations of the following index
contours: 700, 800, 900, 1000, and 1100m. The
thickness of these index contours should be
drawn heavier than the intermediate contours.

3. INTERPOLATING CONTOURS GRAPHICALLY.

Given the sketch of a 15x20 meter tract of land. The indicated elevations of the
ground points were obtained by the Checkerboard Method. By the principle of graphical
interpolation plot with a template the contour map using a contour interval of 10
meters and indicate the following index contours: 200, 250, 300, 350, and 400 meters.
Assume uniformity of slope between the given points and select the suitable diagonal
for each of the two blocks when points were located in plan by radiation with transit,
and their elevations and horizontal distances determined by stadia method.
Requirements:
a) Construct graphically a contour map based on the given data by using a horizontal scale of 1:1,000
and a contour interval of 20m. A template or an engineer's scale and triangle may be used when inter-
polating contour lines.
b) Use tracing paper with dimensions of at least 30cm by 50cm.
c) Indicate the elevations of the following index contours: 700, 800, 900, 1000, and 1100m. The thickness
of these index contours should be drawn heavier than the intermediate contours.

4. One side of a regular pentagon plot is 120 meters long. The elevation of each
corner in clockwise direction are 438.6 m, 272.40 m, 214.90 m, 392.80 m, and
300.80 m, while the elevation at its center is 351.50 m. Assuming uniformity of
slope, draw the field to any convenient scale and sketch therein its contour lines
by estimation at 10-meter interval.

5. Given a rectangular tract of lend 690 m by. 1220 m (see accompanying sketch).
The elevation at the center of the tract (E) is 165.0 m and the elevation of
corners A, B, C, and D are 62.5 m, 93.3 m, 212.8 the given corners, and contour
interval of 20 m, you are required to m, and 125.3 m, respectively. Assuming
uniformity of slope between plot the contour lines. The contour lines with
elevations of 100m and 200m are to be shown as index contours.
