What is ICT?

Information and communication technologies (ICT) is defined as a diverse set

of technological tools and resources used to transmit, store, create, share or
exchange information. ICTs fall into four main categories: computing and
information technology, broadcasting, telecommunications and internet.

Impact if ICT on Education and Recreation in terms of:

 Access to information
Being able to search for various sources and contrast them, as well as to
structure information are some of the most notable skills that students develop
thanks to the use of ICT. Information and communication technologies are
currently being used in education to assist students to learn more effectively
by providing teachers with access to a wide range of new pedagogy.Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) helps students to be up to date with
new information. Thanks to ICT we have access to information that can help us
with our homework and assignments and even tests. We don’t have to go to a
library we can just google and get information.

 Distance learning
Usage of ICTs encourages interaction and collaboration between teachers and
learners, and among learners in distance education. Information and
Communication technologies have helped to remove the isolation of learning at
a distance and changed the nature of distance education. ICT makes face-to-
face communication possible in distance learning and makes information
sharing and learning more effective. ICT can help students in the various
phases of the learning cycle in distance education. In distance education, the
learners cannot attend the institution because of several reasons. Further, it is
difficult for distance learning institutions to meet the learning needs at every
stage of the learning cycle of the large number of students enrolled in different
courses because of limited human resources. The use of ICT helps to overcome
such limitations. With the help of ICT, support services are provided to
distance learners at all stages of the learning cycle.

 Collaborative teaching and learning

It can be used to gauge conceptual understanding, filter information, draw
conclusions and encourage peer learning among students. Essentially it
involves putting students into pairs and asking them to discuss a challenging
question and then to report their findings back to the class. Technology is a
great way to promote and facilitate discussion among students. They'll interact
with each other through the technology and discuss different ways they can
collaborate and learn together.

 Plagiarism
One of the main aspects of the ICT impacting plagiarism is students cheating
during their tests. Academic dishonesty is a big problem amongst students,
especially now since technology is so widely available to children. Plagiarism
negatively affects others, but it mostly impacts the student who plagiarized
initially. On the other hand, it provides an opportunity for academic staff to
control academic dishonesty.
For example :
Cheating in school can affect someone's academic record which can prevent
them from continuing their education the way they wish.

 Online tutoring
An online tutor might use radio, television, computers, and other technology to
help students acquire new skills and enhance their education. These students
may be completing their education online or using technology for extra
help. The tutor monitors the students’ work and helps them stay motivated in
each subject area. Typically, students and teachers meet face to face
periodically to evaluate the process.

 Music
It has revolutionized the music industry for producers by allowing them to
record, write, and produce high-quality songs. The music industry has
significantly benefited from the widespread use of virtual studio technologies.
It can be used to add software synthesizers and effects units to digital audio
workstations.Innovative music technologies are also integral to the creation of
a lot of modern music. Software-based virtual instruments and MIDI
technology allow people to use millions of sounds in the production of their
music, which musicians can program and manipulate in complex ways.
ICT has made it possible to send music anywhere in the world within seconds
in High Quality. ICT has provided opportunity through thousands of
Applications for mobile phones which are used by musicians for tuning of
instruments, enhancing the musical ability and doing vocal or instrumental
practice.

 Gaming
Games became more realistic and relatable, increasing the fun and excitement
for players. As part of the educational use of ICT, digital games can be learning
tools, motivators and generators of curiosity and as a result an effective means
of optimising student learning and performance in daily educational practice.
The Internet has made it possible for users worldwide to come together and
achieve a mission together. Technological advancement has made it possible to
play anytime, whether or not other players are online. Many trusted sites have
developed games to be played in groups (multiplayer titles), making it a social
event.
