PREFACE
Congratulations on getting this ebook. I hope the contents help as much as
they have helped me and thousands of other students. In fact, I hope it
helps you more.
This is the second edition of the Guide to the University of Ilorin, after more
research and consultation, I have added to supplement the knowledge of
the readers of this book.
It has been found out that most commonly among the fresh students and
aspirants that they find it hard to get much information about the things
surrounding the University. They lack comprehensive knowledge of the
areas within the campus and how to sort themselves out on their first
arrival to the school.
That is why this guide was created to be a comprehensive companion to
prospective students, fresh students and even old students. As you
navigate your journey at Unilorin, use this ebook as a valuable reference
that offers guidance, insights, and practical information. The aim is to
equip you with the knowledge needed to make the most of your university
experience and create lasting memories at this esteemed institution.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

KUFORIJI, Ayobami popularly known by his brand name 'APEXWEALTH' and


the shorten form 'APEX', is a student of Mass Communication department
in the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences at the University
of Ilorin.
He works as an educational guide to students offering them support and
advice concerning all academic related matters. He also works as a
reporter and blogger for a report outlet 'CAMPUS REPORTS' that
disseminates news about school matters to the public.
Furthermore, He is part of Mr Jay Realty Solutions work team that cater for
students' needs on housing and accommodation for both on campus and
off campus.
He is an undergraduate at the Initiative for Sound Education, Relationship
and Health (ISERH) a non governmental organization that empowers youth
on leadership, socio-corporate and entrepreneural skills.
He is the current head of his class and also a stakeholder in his department.

INTRODUCTION TO UNILORIN

University of Ilorin, also known as Unilorin, is a federal government-owned


university in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. It was established by a decree of
the federal military government in August 1975.

The institution has been reported by the Joint Admission Matriculation


Board(JAMB) to be the most sought-after university in 2021 and also in
2023, making it the tenth year.

The Vice-Chancellor of the school is Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole


SAN.

LOCATION

The school is located in Ilorin, Kwara State. It has a land area of


approximately 15,000 hectares of land.

RESOURES IN THE CAMPUS

 The University Library

University of Ilorin, Library is a vital resource for students, faculty, and


researchers. It provides access to a wide range of academic materials,
including books, journals, and electronic resources. The library supports
various academic disciplines and offers services such as borrowing,
research assistance, and access to digital databases. It's a crucial hub for
learning and research at the University of Ilorin. The university library is

The stadium can be found just after the Faculty of Education, the stadium
has a main bowl and two other fields. The stadium contains a basketball
court, a squash court, gym facilities, badminton court, tennis court, baseball
court etc

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

 University Health Center

The university ensures the wellness of her students with the


provision of a well equipped clinic located within the campus. They
provide 24/7 services to the students with free healthcare and
drugs to any student who has completed the payment of school
fees and clinic registration. Not only that, the university also has a
teaching hospital called University of Ilorin Teaching hospital
(UITH)

• Mental Health Awareness

There's a Counselling centre just besides the student affairs unit. They
provide counseling to all students on matters relating to relationship,
finance and others. The counselors can also be found in all faculties.

CHAPTER 5

CAMPUS LIFE - CLUB AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Campus life is not all about academics, It's a vibrant and dynamic
experience filled with opportunities to explore your interests, make lifelong
friends, and develop skills outside the classroom.

At University of Ilorin; there are ways you can have a fun filled experience.

1. Visit the UNILORIN Dam: The university has a dam situated at the TEC
area, the dam offers a breathtaking view to all those who visits and serves
as a place of relaxation for the students.

2. Visit the UNILORIN zoo: Just before the school gate is the zoo. The zoo
is filled with lots of wild animals including a lion all sealed and secured in
cages.

2. Join the Sports club: Unilorin has a football league with games every
week. Students can also enjoy other sports like Tennis, Swimming,
Basketball etc

3. Join clubs like Union Campus of Journalists( UCJ), Junior Chamber


International (JCI) and other organisations. These organisations start their
recruitment at the beginning of the session, the first semester.

ACCOMMODATION

Accomodation for the school are in two categories:

ON CAMPUS

OFF CAMPUS

ON CAMPUS

On Campus refers to areas within the school. For on campus, There are:

1. PUBLIC SCHOOL HOSTELS (Both male and female):

These ones are owned by the school.You can get bed spaces here by a
system called balloting. A date and time would be announced to you and
you'll be on your portal by that time. Once that time is right, they'll open the
hostel balloting portal right there on your own portal and you'll book a
bedspace in any public hostel you want. After booking, you can proceed to
pay before the deadline which is usually 72 hours.

There are 5 public school hostels for females which are:

There is only 1 public school hostel for males:

In these hostels, there are rooms of 4, rooms of 6, and rooms of 8.

For the last session 2022/2023, the hostel fee for the Lagos Hostels was
N40,000. All female public hostels were N40,000 as well with the exception
of Trunil - N48,000 and Needs - N55,000.

2. PRIVATE HOSTELS:

These ones, as the name implies, are owned by private individuals.They are
costly and slight expensive. Also,They are booked by bedspaces. There are
rooms of 2,3,4…..

Off campus refers to the areas outside the school. They are
accomodations around the school environs like Sanrab, Oke odo, Mfm, etc

They are booked by rooms and the rents are yearly. There are various
options such as single room, self-contain, Bedroom and Parlour etc for
students to choose from.

1.Campus Safety Tips

Unilorin's campus is generally safe, but it's important to be aware of your


surroundings and take precautions:

 Travel in Groups: When walking on campus, especially at night, it's


advisable to travel in groups for added safety.

 Emergency Numbers: Save important contact numbers in your phone,


including the Unilorin Security Services and local emergency services.

 Stay Informed: Keep yourself updated with safety alerts and


notifications from Unilorin authorities through official channels.

 Secure Your Belongings: Don't leave valuable items unattended. Lock


your doors and windows when you leave your accommodation.

2. Emergency Procedures

In case of emergencies, it's crucial to know what to do and who to contact:

 Fire: If you encounter a fire, raise the alarm and evacuate the area
immediately. Call the emergency services and Unilorin Security
Services.

 Medical Emergencies: For medical emergencies on campus, contact


the University Health Center or local healthcare facilities if necessary.

concern, don't hesitate to contact Unilorin Security Services or inform
the Students Affairs Center.

Unilorin has a dedicated team responsible for ensuring campus security.
