We hope you are looking forward to starting your A level Chemistry studies in September (whether
at SWGS or at another sixth form location) and that you enjoyed the taster day sessions if you were
able to make it.
We have gathered some resources in order to help you ensure you have revised all of the necessary
content from GCSE chemistry, and to give you a head start to A level Chemistry. Please note that
part 3 below is compulsory for those of you doing A level Chemistry at SWGS.
1. GCSE revision guide (OPTIONAL) – This table lists the GCSE topics that are most relevant to A level
chemistry and a link to the BBC bitesize revision site; you should make sure you have thoroughly
revised and understood these before moving onto the second set of resources in the folder. Topics
are numbered and ordered using the specification for OCR Chemistry A (which SWGS use), but if you
have been taught a specification from a different exam board, e.g. AQA or Edexcel, then the content
will be similar.
For those of you who have done double award (e.g. Additional Science) the extra content in the
single GCSE Chemistry course is highlighted. It would be helpful if you went over this as a priority
(but we will be formally teaching this content at the start of the A level so don’t worry if you don’t
understand all of it).
If you are looking to buy a resource to help guide your revision, CGP publish a useful guide for the
transition from GCSE to A level:

Level/dp/1782942807/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=
2. GCSE to A level booklet (OPTIONAL) – We have provided a booklet from the Kerboodle suite of
online resources. This contains definitions of practical terms, fundamental chemical principles and
maths skills needed for A level. Once you have completed your GCSE revision, work through this
booklet (the answers to the exercises are also provided). It is not compulsory to complete this
booklet but it will be helpful in completing part 3 (which is compulsory).
3. Summer work (COMPULSARY for students staring A level Chemistry at SWGS) – before September,
we would like you to complete the set of multiple choice questions on the answer sheet provided.
Please can you bring this sheet with you to your first timetabled Chemistry lesson in September. If
you are NOT attending SWGS for sixth form, we will send the answers to those who request them in
the first week of September 2022.
Finally, we wish you all a good summer, and we look forward to starting the A level Chemistry course
in September! ☺
