Observations
Today at Terex I shadowed Mitch Ross for a large portion of my time. He is a mechanical
engineer who has made some substantial jumps in his career lately. To my understanding he is a
young engineer but has a major role at Terex. We started our morning looking at some software
and then went into one of his meetings with a support team out of india. He does this because
Terex employs people out of India to do lots of their math and real world application work. We
also took a look at some of the pieces he built and how he did it. I also shadowed a few other
people who took me on tours, talked about their days, and taught me a few things about electrical

I am very happy with my first day shadowing. Although at times I was lost or
overwhelmed I picked up on a lot of things I did not know and also made some good
connections. It was interesting to see what these guys do on a daily basis and the meeting was
overwhelming and stressful and I wasn’t even a part of it! I am glad I got to meet Mitch because
we like a lot of the same things and it was really nice to be under his wing for the first day. I also
spent lots of time just looking at what he does and was allowed to ask questions which was
helpful.

Observations
Today I looked at some of the manufacturing portions of engineering. We went through
fiberglass rollers, and a few problems one engineer was currently facing with them. I also got to
look at how things are real world tested for safety with breaker bars, and large pads they use to
stress their components. We also spent some time out in their yard actually moving the pieces on
the trucks and learning about hydraulics. I was glad we did more hands on stuff and my whole
Reflection
Today was a lot different than yesterday at Terex. I was worried because there is only so much I
can get from looking at software I don’t really understand but today we got away from the
blueprint side and I did some time with a few different people. Each engineer I was with showed
me the specific thing he was or had worked on and how it was used in their process. I got a lot
more into manufacturing engineering today and that was very interesting to me. I met Biday and
he had some knowledge for me about how to think if you are stuck. I also learned about some
electronics and got to know a few guys better and talk about some struggles with them. Overall,
a great experience.
