OBJECTIVES
This research endeavors to examine the current state of the
generation gap among individuals of varying age groups and their
respective viewpoints. Each individual holds unique perspectives,
which may pose challenges. Sensitivity is crucial in addressing such
matters. Our efforts aim to identify potential avenues for bridging
this growing divide.

The study aimed to explore:

1. The presence of a generation gap among peers and with parents.
2. The impact of the generation gap on interpersonal interactions.
3. Workplace challenges stemming from the generation gap.
4. Factors contributing to the generation gap.
5. The potential role of the generation gap in causing disconnection.
ACTION PLAN
To identify and address factors contributing
to the generation gap, fostering
GOAL communication, mutual respect, and
understanding across age groups for societal
cohesion and intergenerational harmony.

WHAT IS
GENERATION GAP?
"Every generation imagines itself to be more intelligent
than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one
that comes after it.” - GEORGE

A generation gap delineates the disparity in beliefs and

behaviors between two distinct generations. It
encompasses differences in attitudes, behaviours, exposure,
and preferences across younger and older members.

These distinctions, evident in politics, values, and pop

culture, arise from varied experiences, opinions, habits, and
behaviors. Although generation gaps are historical
phenomena, their prominence has intensified in the early
twenty-first century.

REASONS FOR
GENERATION GAP
1. Communication Barriers: Generational differences often lead to misunderstandings
as each group may perceive the world differently due to societal changes over time.
This alters their perspectives and what they consider normal.

2. Intolerance towards Mistakes: Parents' reluctance to accept their children's errors

inhibits the learning process. Instead of punishment, mistakes should be viewed as
opportunities for growth and understanding.

3. Imposed Expectations: Parents projecting their own aspirations onto their children
without considering their desires can create discord and hinder personal
development.

4, Excessive Comparisons: Constant comparisons between generations or

individuals can erode self-confidence and stifle enthusiasm, exacerbating the
generational gap.

5. Limited Interaction: Busy schedules and the pressures of adulthood often result in
insufficient quality time between parents and children, leading to a lack of
communication and further widening the generational divide.

CONCLUSION
34% of respondents fell within the 40-50 age bracket, while 26%
were aged 30-40.

The youth contributed the highest percentage at 35%. Male

respondents constituted 64% of the total, with females comprising
only 36%.

The survey revealed that most individuals feel no generation gap

among friends, although 14% reported experiencing it.

Opinions on the impact of generational differences on

interpersonal interactions varied: 48% believe it affects workplace
dynamics, while 26% disagree.

The remaining respondents expressed uncertainty regarding their

stance.
CONCLUSION
Various opinions exist regarding the causes of generation gaps,
with many attributing it to differing thought patterns.

A significant observation is the limited time spent with parents by

a majority of individuals. Survey responses indicate that
approximately 50% of people find ample conversational topics
with their parents, while 40% struggle to find common ground.

Additionally, 80% of respondents note differences in opinion

during conversations with their parents, suggesting a prevalent
issue.

INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT
Interviewer: Good morning, Mr. Cherian Thank you for agreeing to speak with us today about the topic of generation gap. Can you start by telling us
a bit about your own experiences with generational differences?
Grandfather: Good morning. Of course, happy to be here. Well, I've seen quite a lot of changes over the years. I grew up in a time very different from
what my grandchildren are experiencing now. Back then, things were simpler, slower-paced, and family bonds were very strong. We didn't have the
technology and distractions that are so prevalent today.
Interviewer: That's interesting. How do you perceive the generation gap between your generation and your grandchildren's generation?
Grandfather: It's quite significant, I must say. There's a marked difference in the way we view the world, our values, and even our communication
styles. For example, my grandchildren are constantly glued to their phones and social media, whereas I prefer face-to-face conversations. There's
also a difference in our perspectives on various issues, such as work, education, and societal norms.
Interviewer: Have you encountered any challenges or conflicts due to these differences?
Grandfather: Certainly. There have been times when it's been challenging to relate to my grandchildren or understand their viewpoints. Sometimes
they see me as old-fashioned or out of touch, while I may find it difficult to grasp some of their choices or behaviors. However, I believe it's important
to try and bridge these gaps, to find common ground and maintain strong family connections.
Interviewer: How do you think the generation gap can be bridged, based on your own experiences?
Grandfather: Communication is key, without a doubt. It's important for both sides to listen to each other, to respect each other's perspectives, even if
we don't always agree. Spending quality time together, sharing stories, and being open to learning from one another can go a long way in bridging
the generation gap. Ultimately, it's about fostering understanding and empathy across generations.
Interviewer: Thank you, Mr. Smith, for sharing your insights and experiences with us today. It's been a pleasure speaking with you.
Grandfather: You're welcome. My pleasure. Thank you for having me.
