AC Milan condemns acts of racism against Mike Maignan

2:37 pm February 12, 2024 Milan, Italy

AC Milan stands with goalkeeper Mike Maignan, following the

racial abuse from Udinese fans, in Udine, on January 20th 2024.
Milan as an organization has always stood against acts of racism, and
will continue to do so as there is no place in the game of soccer for
acts of hate directed at its players, or any other player in Serie A.

Unidese has stated that they are collaborating with local authorities
to ensure clarification of the incident, in order to do whatever is
possible to punish those responsible for the racial abuse during the game in Udine. AC Milan
does not blame Udinese or its fans for the incident that occurred, as it was the unjust act of a few
fans located behind the goal in which Mike Maignan was standing. AC Milan also knows that
fans can get passionate and loud during games, but that does not excuse the acts of racial abuse
that occurred during the game.

AC Milan Goalkeeper Mike Maignan said in a press conference, “We came back out with a
greater desire to win the game because the best response to racism is to win”. AC Milan supports
this statement as they are proud of their players for showing support to their fellow teammate
after the racial abuse, and take pride in their players ability to come back onto the pitch and win
the game. AC Milan thanks and appreciates Udinese and the referees of the game for respecting
Maignans’ decision to leave the pitch for a short period of time in protest, and their attempt in
stopping the racial abuse after being informed of what was happening.
