1.0 OBJECTIVES

To establish standard protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure covers the company protocols as part of the BCP during the COVID-19
pandemic. This will help the company establish procedures to include screening and
sanitation to safeguard employees. Checklists will provide also to ensure that all business
partners and guest will comply with the requirements as preventive measures.

3.0 DEFINITION

3.1 Coronaviruses - are a group of viruses belonging to the family of Coronaviridae, which
infect both animals and humans. Human coronaviruses can cause mild disease like a common
cold, while others cause more severe disease (such as MERS - Middle East Respiratory
Syndrome and SARS – Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). A new coronavirus that
previously has not been identified in humans emerged in Wuhan, China in December 2019.

3.2 COVID-19 (Coronavirus-19) - an infectious disease caused by a new virus. People may
be sick with the virus for 1 to 14 days before developing symptoms. The disease causes
respiratory illness like the flu with symptoms such as a cough, fever, tiredness and in more
severe cases difficulty in breathing. Coronavirus disease spreads primarily through contact
with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a
surface or object that has a virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose or mouth. Most people
(about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. In more severe
cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome and sometimes
death. Older people, and people with other medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes or
heart disease) may be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill.

3
4.0 GUIDELINES

Standard recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 includes frequent cleaning of

hands using alcohol-based rub or soap and water, covering the nose and mouth with a flexed
elbow or disposable tissue when coughing and sneezing, avoiding close contact (2 meters or
6 feet) with anyone that has a fever and cough, avoid touching the eyes, nose and mount if
your hands are not clean and stay home and self-isolate if you feel unwell.

There is no specific medicine to prevent or treat coronavirus (COVID-19). People may need supportive
care to help them breathe. If mild symptoms are prevailing, stay at home until recovery.
Symptoms can be relieved through rest and sleep, keep warm, drink plenty of fluids and use a room
humidifier or take a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough. If fever, cough and difficulty in
breathing is developing, promptly seek medical care. Seek medical advice and inform them of any recent
travel or recent contact with travelers.
