Time to pick some dessert with Sally and John! What are they going to bake*?

* To "bake" means to make food using heat like cakes or pies.

Instructions: Read the text aloud.

Sally: Look at the cake!


John: I don't like cake. It's not my favorite.
Sally: Why don't we make a fruit tart? We have fruit.
John: Hmmm ... how about pudding?
Sally: I hate pudding! Let's make a pie! I like pie.
John: Apple pie? That's my favorite kind!
Sally: It's my favorite too! Let's make apple pie and have ice cream with it!
John: I love ice cream. What flavor should we get?

Making Suggestions with Imperatives

You can use Imperatives to make suggestions.

You use “Let's + base of verb” (without to) when you want to include the speaker in the
suggestion:

Let's make dinner.


Let's bake a pie.

Another way to make a suggestion is to use “Why don't + subject + base of verb” (without
to):

Why don't we make dinner?
