Q6. Petroleum is a dark oily liquid from which a large number of


substances, like petrol, diesel, lubrication oil, etc., are produced.
Fractional distillation of petroleum is carried out in order to
separate various constituents of petroleum. The products of
fractional distillation of petroleum are petroleum gas, gasoline,
kerosene, fuel oil, diesel oil, lubricating oil and residue. There are
many useful substances which are obtained from petroleum and
natural gas, called petrochemicals. Natural gas is a fossil fuel
that consists mostly of hydrocarbon methane (almost 95%).
