CHALLENGE

The company has a set of far reaching


corporate social responsibility and
sustainability goals, and is committed to
eliminating waste and inefficiencies across all
facets of its operations. It was looking for a
scalable solution that would help to identify
energy waste, and drive savings and
efficiencies.

SOLUTIONING

Approximately 150 circuit-level energy


sensors were placed across the four locations
that fed real-time data. The sensors were
placed on critical systems that included HVAC
and lighting.

IMPACT

• In Palo Alto, the AC fan system was not


working properly. Through early detection,
the management identified 69,420
kWh/year ($10,500) worth of savings and
avoided an equipment failure.

• The HVAC system in Corte Madera, was


not operating correctly and air handlers
were over cycling. Through the early
detection, the warehouse was able to save
16,016 KW. The combined energy and
maintenance savings was approximately
$2,250.

• Through real-time monitoring in San

TARGET –
• BioMar is one of the world’s top aquaculture companies. They have announced their intention to set science-based targets in line with the
stricter 1.5°C standard on emission reduction and to achieve Net Zero within their own operations no later than 2050.
• Using 2020 figures as a baseline, they also plan to reduce the carbon footprint per tonne of feed produced by one-third by 2030.

SOLUTION –
• Centrica was asked to deliver a science-based pathway to Net Zero within BioMar’s own operations for Scope 1 and 2 that would allow
BioMar to align to SBTi and do that as cost effectively as possible
• Centrica used their Energy management and Monitoring solution to obtain a granular view of existing energy usage and carbon emissions
