U.

S Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)


An eligible student is one who has reached age 18 or attends a school beyond
the high school level.

What are “education records” according to FERPA?


According to 34 CFR § 99.3, education records are “directly related to a
student” and maintained by the “educational agency or institution or by a
party acting for the agency or institution.”
1. Attendancy - in person or by telecommunications technology for students
who are not physically presents.
Examples of dates of attendance include an academic year, a spring semester,
or a first quarter.
2. Directory information - includes, but is not limited to, the student's name;
address; telephone listing; electronic mail address; photograph; date and place
of birth; major field of study; grade level; enrollment status (e.g.,
undergraduate or graduate, full-time or part-time); dates of attendance;
participation in o cially recognized activities and sports; weight and height of
members of athletic teams; degrees, honors, and awards received; and the
most recent educational agency or institution attended.

At postsecondary institutions, medical and psychological treatment records of
eligible students are excluded from the definition of “education records” if
they are made, maintained, and used only in connection with treatment of the
student and disclosed only to individuals providing the treatment.

identify or locate a student.

High schools requirements:


Academic requirements:
In n the United States, academic grading commonly takes on the form of five,
six or seven letter grades.
Traditionally, the grades are A+, A, A−, B+, B, B−, C+, C, C−, D+, D, D− and F,
with A+ being the highest and F being lowest. In some cases, grades can also be
numerical. Numeric-to-letter-grade conversions generally vary from system
to system and between disciplines and status.

Elementary school
Children begin elementary school with kindergarten (grade K) around age 5.
The next year is grade 1 and it goes up each year to grade 5. They finish
elementary school around age 10.

Children in elementary school usually learn di erent subjects from one teacher
in a single classroom. They learn to develop writing and math skills, reading,
critical thinking, and problem-solving

Typically schools will o er Spanish and French; and, often German; and,
sometimes Latin; Chinese, Japanese, and/or Greek

Arts

Two to three years of other subjects depending on what is o ered in school


Physical education classes are usually mandatory for various periods.
High School:

Ideas for classifiers:
1. Subject + Grade (Can appear in several formats)
Also, can add Name classifier + Grade \ ID classifier + Grade (in case of data on
a specific course)
2. Database using education relatives like: GPA, Grade:, Score, …
3. Add-in the health classifier
4. Personal feedback is also under FERPA protection, so we might add a
classifier for behavioral characters.
5. Create a student classifier which will find the private personal information
that is kept on the student as parents name, addresses, phone number, social
number, internal users information log-in and etc .
