COLOMBIAN LEGISLATIVE BRANCH

The legislative branch corresponds to the formulation of laws, exercising control over the
government and reforming the constitution. It is represented by a collegiate public
corporation of popular election called the Congress of the Republic, which is made up of
the Senate of the Republic and the House of Representatives. Thus constituting a
bicameral system; that is, an upper house represented by the Senate and a lower house
represented by the House of Representatives.
ROLE OF THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH IN COLOMBIA
The Legislative Power is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives, which
together form the Colombian Congress, based in the capital of the Republic. The basic
function of Congress is to amend the Constitution, pass laws, and exercise political control
of the Government.
The legislative branch of Colombia is made up of:

 CONGRESS OF THE REPUBLIC: The Congress of the Republic in Colombia is the


organ of the branch of the State Legislative Power, represented by the Senate and
the House of Representatives, whose main mission is to promulgate, modify or
repeal laws: the most important instrument of social regulation and axis of the rule
of law.

 SENATE OF THE REPUBLIC: The Senate of the Republic, representing the


Colombian people, exercises constitutional and legal functions to promote the
common good and the development of society.

 HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES: The Chamber of Representatives fulfills the function


of reforming the Political Constitution through legislative acts. To elaborate,
interpret, amend and repeal laws and codes in all branches of legislation.
LEGISLATIVE BRANCH OF ECUADOR
The National Assembly of the Republic of Ecuador is the body that exercises the legislative
power of the Republic of Ecuador. It is a unicameral parliament made up of 137 assembly
members divided into twelve permanent commissions.
ROLE OF THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH IN ECUADOR
It fulfills the functions of creating laws and supervision, including the possibility of filing a
political trial against the President of the Republic, the vice president and the Ministers of
State, in Ecuador it is called the National Assembly.
The legislative branch in Ecuador is made up of:

 The Legislative Function is exercised by the National Assembly, which will be made
up of assembly members elected for a period of four years. The National Assembly
is unicameral and will have its headquarters in Quito.

 In order to be an assembly member, it will be required to have Ecuadorian


nationality, to have reached eighteen years of age at the time of registration of the
candidacy and to be in enjoyment of political rights.

 Swear in the President and Vice President of the Republic proclaimed elected by
the National Electoral Council. Possession will take place on May 24 of the year of
your choice.
