Unit 2 Assignment: The Role of Play

Due Date: Sunday, 11:59 pm

Total Points: 100

Overview:

Play is a crucial aspect of a child's development, and providing opportunities for play at home and in school
can significantly impact their overall well-being. This fosters learning at all stages of development. Although
the concept and value of play are widely debated in early childhood education, research shows that it
benefits both children and adults.

For this assignment, you will write a short essay on your thoughts on play and the opinions presented in
"The Beginning of Life" video clip produced by the Bernard van Leer Foundation in the Netherlands. In the
video clip in the unit, child development experts explain why it is important for young children to explore the
natural world.

Directions:

Address the following questions in your essay:

• Why is there so much debate surrounding the issue of play?

• Why do you think children are often not encouraged to play outdoors at home, and why is it essential
to provide opportunities for play in school?
• What did you learn from "The Beginning of Life" clip that supports the research showing that play is
critical for healthy child development?
• What does the quote "What a gift we give a child when we take them to the park, to the beach" mean
to you?

Requirements

• Submit a Word document of 1-2 pages,

• Use double-spacing and Times New Roman, 12-point font.
