1 The objective is not clear. It just says: The objectives have been rewritten as
to describe victim related factors like 1. To study time, place and person
age, sex…. distribution of Paediatric trauma
among patients admitted to trauma
center of KGMU
2. To describe certain factors related to
treatment of paediatric trauma
patients admitted to the trauma centre
of KGMU
3. To do a subgroup analysis based on
age and sex

2 What is the use of these variables? DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS- Analysis of

variables like age and sex can help us identify age
and sex specific trends in injury mechanism and
injury severity.
INJURY RELATED CHARACTERISTICS-
Analysing variables like mode of injury, site of
injury, severity of injury and pattern of injury will
help in identifying prevalence in each category,
which type of injuries are more severe at
presentation. Identifying such patterns will help in
formulating policies to minimise/ prevent such
occurrences.
TREATMENT RELATED FACTORS
Analysing variables like time since injury to
presentaion, vehicle used for transport, referral
from other centres and outcome of admission will
help in identifying the efficacy/ any lacunae in
emergency medical services.
3 RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS- Research hypothesis: Demographic factors like
age and sex may have an effect on injury
mechanism, severity of injury and outcome of
admisson.
Null hypothesis: Demographic factors like age and
sex do not have an effect on injury mechanism of
injury, injury severity and outcome of admission.
4 SAMPLE SIZE CALCULATION, A previous study has reported the incidence of
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS
rate for paediatric injury to be 10460 per one lac

per one year. () Sample size was calculated used

the formula

__________________
Prospective Observational study
SAMPLE SIZE: 200 cases
200 case included in the study
Calculated by the formula:

Where 1 = 22.3, 2 = 15.3 The SD’s of function

score before and after surgery
d =min(1, 2 ) the minimum mean difference
consider to be medically significant
type I error α = 5% corresponding to 95%
confidence level
type II error β = 20% for detecting results with
80% power of study
So the required sample size
n = 198
