Introduction :

Amazon is a multinational technology company that began as an online bookstore in 1994. Today, it
has grown into a global e-commerce giant, offering a vast selection of products, services, and
entertainment.

Amazon's dominance in e-commerce is undeniable. With its vast product selection, competitive
prices, and user-friendly platform, Amazon has become the go-to destination for online shoppers
worldwide. Its one-click ordering and fast delivery options have made shopping online an effortless
and convenient experience. Amazon's reach extends far beyond e-commerce.

Additionally, Amazon is making strides in artificial intelligence, digital streaming through Prime Video,
and online advertising, solidifying its position as a tech giant with a diversified portfolio.

Part 1/

When I started seeking a job I didn’t really know what I want to do. That’s why when I found the work
at Amazon I directly sent my application form to the agency who was Adecco.

Before being part of the Amazon time, I’ve waited about two weeks because I had to fill up lots of
application form with my personal data. The second step was to watch some videos about the
security rule, which are very important at Amazon because some packages can be very heavy.

Moreover, these videos was especially useful for the phone interview that is the last step. This
interview was here to see if the candidate is really motivated for the jobs and if he knows all the
security rules at work but also others questions as for instance : How many time are you able to work
for the agency ? Do you have your driving licence ? Do you mind working night shifts ?

Part 2/

Let’s continue this presentation by describing my workplace. Indeed, as you can see on the photo, I
worked in a huge warehouse in Briec in order to welcome all the packages of the days, which are
transported by trucks.

In this warehouse, there are two space distinct from each other : the work area and the first floor.
The first floor was where all the director’s and manager’s offices plus the onsite agency’s offices and
the most important for the employee, a “chill space” where employee can drink freely some
beverages, eat something or just playing table football when this is break time.

The work area is where I spend most of my time. This space is divided in 4 work space with a specific
things to do directed by a “little manager” or a “big manager”.

Part 3/

When I signed my contract, I decided to work at nigh shifts from 5 am to 10 am. It was a part-time job
because the full time was booked for the amazon’s employee. As I worked at night I had a better
remuneration and at the end of the month I obtained approximatively 1 800 €.

As a operations officer, I was able to deal with 4 different positions :

1- You are working next to the conveyor and you are in charge of 2, 3 or 4 aisles assigned by a
number and a letter like “36a”. Your job is to take all the packages on the conveyor that
 correspond to the number of your aisles and put these packages on a cart. The cart has 3 part
that correspond to heavy, normal or slight packages.
2- You are working in the aisle. Your job is to take the packages on the cart to place them in big
bag by scanning them with a finger scan in order to locate the right bag. You’re the teammate
of the position n°1.
3- You are working at the beginning of the conveyor. Your job is to cut out larges boxes filled
with packages and look at the letter of the package in order to push it on the right conveyor
(A or B).
4- You are working in the truck area. Your job is to unload the trucks by using a pallet truck to lift
the large boxes and bring them next to the person who are working at the position n°3.

Part 4/

Thanks to this student job I’ve learned few things especially by conversing with the other people. The
first thing that popped up in my mind was : “I know why I study to avoid working in this type of job”.

The night shifts learned me how work can be difficult even if I was in a part-time job because when
you have to wake up at 3:30 am and after 30min in car to go to work about a certain period of time
your body becomes very tired.

Another thing that shocked me was all the gossip between all the people. I had the impression that
we had made a return in kindergarten. Everyone without was whispering on everyone. I was really
disappointed about that but on the other hand I can understand because the work is pretty hard and
also boring so talking is the only way to spend your time.

Finally, the fact that shocked me the most was the organisation of the warehouse and the number of
packages we have to deal with every morning it’s impressive but also afraid me.
