The Battle of Hunain was initiated by the tribes of Hawazin and Thaqif12. When they heard about the Prophet
Muhammad’s conquest of Makkah, they decided to fight the Muslims before Islam could spread throughout
Arabia1. They were joined by other tribes such as Nasr, Jusham, Bani Hilal, and others1. Malik Ibn Awuf, the
chief of the Hawazin tribe, led the planning for the battle1. They hoped to attack the Muslim army while it was
besieging Mecca3. This decision led to the Battle of Hunain.

The Battle of Hunain, as described in Surah At-Tauba, verse 25, In the Battle of Hunain, the Muslim
army initially retreated due to the enemy’s fierce resistance. However, divine intervention
occurred, with tranquillity sent down upon Prophet Muhammad and the believers, along with
unseen angelic soldiers. This divine support led to the Muslims’ victory, emphasizing that
success comes from faith and trust in Allah, not just numerical strength.

There were rumors among the Ansar (the Helpers) that they were being overlooked in favor of the Muhajirun
(the Emigrants) in terms of leadership and distribution of resources1. In response to these rumors, Prophet
Muhammad (pbuh) reminded them of their invaluable contributions and reassured them of their esteemed
status in Islam1. He emphasized that while worldly goods could be given to others to win their hearts, the
Ansar had already won his heart and the heart of Allah1. This affirmation from the Prophet helped to dispel the
rumors and reaffirm the unity of the Muslim community.
