Item 01 – Chairman Address
Chairman Eng. Dushyantha Wanniarachchi welcomed all the participants for the
meeting of the month of February 2024. (EETSC 2023/24 Meeting 4)

Item 02 – Knowledge Sharing


2.1 Knowledge Sharing Session for the Month of February – Successfully Completed
2.1.1 “Five Secrets in Entrepreneurship” by Eng.Jasmine Nanayakkara
2.1.2 “Ensuring Safety in a World Powered by Electricity” by Eng. Weranga Dassanayake
Item 03 – Memorial Lectures, Public Lectures, Short Seminars andPanel Discussion
3.1 R H Paul memorial oration successfully completed
3.2 Webinar on “Strategic Tax Planning for Engineers” by Mr. Dinesh Kumara was
completed on 16th February at Mavisuru Studio/Online
3.3 Webinar on “Cyber Security Crimes and Data Protection Law in Sri Lanka” by Dr.
Sunil Abeyrathne is planned for on 22nd February at Mavisuru Studio/Online
3.4 Panel Discussion on “Potential of Nuclear Energy and Its Challenges in SriLanka” is
planned on 27th February 2024 at Studio Mavisuru with the participation of an esteemed
panel of Engineers
3.5 Discussion related to“Data Science” with Dr.Bhathiya Liyanage is being discussed.
Dates and venues are to be finalized.

3.6 Discussion related to “Company law and Social Security law with an Attorney at Law is
being discussed. Dates and venues are to be finalized.

3.7 The Chairman informed the members to submit their requests on any other
topics/suggestions on Item 03
• Item 04 – CPD and Education
4.1 The Chairman informed the members to submit their requests on necessary CPDs
to be arranged.
4.2 Paid Online CPD course on “New telecommunication technologies and
applications” will commence on 20th February 2024 and will include 10 Tuesday
Lecture sessions. This will be conducted by Eng. Anuradha Udunuwara.
4.3 The electrical installation CPD curriculum has been finalized b a s e d o n the
requests from the members and will be arranged with the contribution of seven
esteemed resource persons and all the modules will include a comprehensive case
study.
It is planned to be commenced by mid-March.

Item 05 – Techno Exhibition


5.1 Over-all theme for the Sectional Committee Stall and the scope of what will be
displayed at the Techno exhibition is to be decided. This will be achieved by appointing a
committee consisting of volunteers from all three sections.

Item 06 – CSR
6.1 CSR project at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital is in progress.

• Completed knowledge-sharing session for the volunteers

• Visited the premises and completed pre-preparations for the audit

• 10 teams, each consisting of an experienced Electrical Engineer, 3


undergraduates, and an electrician were formed, and they have started visiting
the premises and collecting data

• 7 substations (power supplies) to be inspected and audited.


6.2 Any other ideas and suggestions to be submitted by the members.
Item 07 – Any other Matters
7.1 SLSI requested to give recommendations on” Low voltage cables are classified as
High Voltage cables and put into the market by an Indian Company”. The committee
of experts comprising of Eng. Rienzi Fernando, Prof. Asanga Rodrigo, Eng. Laksith
Sirisena, and Eng. Sampath has started to process of analyzing the issue. Two
committee meetings were held and currently working with the SL customs to get more
information on few concerns.
7.2 A Committee formed to handle the purchase of generators to IESL headed by Eng.
Chamil Edirimuni with Eng. Navodana, Eng. Lasantha Prasad, and Eng. Dushyantha
Wanniarachchi. Two committee meetings were held and the team is in the process of
drawing the structural design for the wiring and installation.
7.3 Field visits be arranged covering all 3 areas of the sectional committee.
• SLT Data Center (Pitipana) – 29th February 2024
• Castlereagh/Broadland/Uma Oya Power Station
• Nikini Automation/Ansell Lanka
Chairman requested members to forward suggestions for field visit arrangements.

7.4 The next meeting will be on 19th March 2024. Meeting details will be informed in
due course.
