3 Good pupil vs. Bad pupil

Look at the sentences below. Which pupils are ‘good pupils’? Which are ‘bad pupils’?

1. Paul is never late and he always does his homework on time.


2. Lidia always pays attention in class.
3. Carlo often cheats in his exams. One day, he’ll be in trouble.
4. Kate doesn’t concentrate in class. She draws in her notebook instead.
5. Mark annoys the teacher because he can’t keep quiet during the lesson.
6. Susan studies very hard. I think she’ll pass all her exams.
7. Daniel annoys the teacher because he’s so noisy.
8. Alice never listens to the teacher. She prefers to talk to her friends.

4 School phrases

Match the words to make phrases from the sentences in exercise 3.

refers to a school attended by pupils between the ages of about 10-14. In countries which have a two-tier system
(primary and secondary schools), for example the UK, they are not common. In the UK, a secondary school would
typically accept pupils from the age of about 13 and a primary school below that age.
