Power On Towing Checklist

 QUALIFICATIONS FOR USE

Only qualified and authorized personnel shall use this checklist when performing the power on towing operation.
This checklist is designed for an in-service aircraft. For other configurations, the brake rider is to ensure the aircraft is in a
safe condition to move.

► EXTERIOR SAFETY CHECKS ► TOWING (POWER ON)

Perform visual walk around check of the aircraft exterior and
check the following as viewed from the ground.
1. Wheel chocks in place
2. Landing Gear struts inflated & tire condition
3. Fluid leaks, structural damage
4. Engine cowls secured and inlets free of foreign matter
5. Equipment clear of aircraft
6. Pitot Probe Covers / Gear Pins Removed
► DOOR / GALLEY / CABIN SAFETY CHECKS
1. Verify All Passenger / Service Door Slides............ DISARMED
2. Verify All Galley Compartments / Carts.................. SECURED
3. Verify All Cabin Areas / Lavatories......................... SECURED

TOWING BRIEFING GUIDE
• The person in charge (left seat) will be responsible for
the following:
○ Brief the team of their responsibilities.
○ Ensure each person is briefed on their duties
during APU start, tow, shutdown, abnormal &
emergency procedures.
○ Evacuation procedures/Emergency egress plan
and meeting place must be identified to all on-
board.
○ Personnel qualifications are current and applicable.
* ○ Review logbook or verify with Maintenance that
there are no items that would prohibit safe move-
ment of the Aircraft.
○ Appropriate checklists and charts are available
and current (GHC, airport diagram).

APU FIRE
1. Stop Aircraft...................................................... Stopped

3. Fire Push Button............................. Push/Released Out
4. Contact the Tower/ATC on VHF #1 with the following
information:
• Who you are
• Where you are
• You have a fire
• Which engine
• Number of people on board
5. Do not move aircraft unless directed by the tower and .
are able to safely perform the move.
6. Battery 1 & 2..............................................................Off
7. Perform an emergency evacuation, if required.
WARNING: If APU Fire light remains out, verify
fire is extinguished visually or by conducting a fire
warning test to verify correct operation.
NOTE: VHF #1 remains operable on battery power
alone.
NOTE: Time and conditions permitting, clear the
active runway.
○ Review Emergency Procedures Checklist and
Briefing Guide
○ ATIS Information
○ Annotate a head count of all personnel onboard
• Only essential personnel are permitted to be onboard.
• Sterile cockpit procedures and situational awareness
are imperative. Stay focused.
• Be sure of your location on the airfield at all times and
be aware of signage and markings. If you are lost -
STOP and determine where you are. If you are unable
to determine where you are on the airport, consider
asking ATC for help or clarification on instructions.
