LESSON PLANNING TEMPLATE

Prior learning / knowledge:

Greet the class. It is very important for both learners and a teacher to kick-start a lesson with
a pleasant mood that will last for the duration of the period, so I will tell a friendly joke to
make learners feel comfortable and accommodated in my class. I will remind learners the
purpose of being in class, which will help give them a strong motivation to focus on the
lesson I am about to introduce. Since my lesson will be about a new topic - Substance Abuse,
we will start by having an open discussion, followed by key words analysis as method of
testing their prior knowledge and understanding about new topic. I will let learners know that
there is no right or wrong answer, to give them a courage to share the information they know
about the content of the day. Learners’ prior knowledge gives the direction to approach a
lesson, therefore I will be set to clarify and introduce the new information. The more
courageous learners are, the more productive they become. Lastly, tell them to take out their
equipment and start the lesson.

Self-Reflection on the lesson plan design:

Successes and reasons

Challenges and reasons

Classroom management – learners constantly disrupt the lesson so I had to give them my
attention
Time constraint – few first 5 to 10 min of the lesson I had to wait for the teacher to finish his
class

Improvements (changes for future lessons)

- Be more flexible, open mindedness, and creative
- Adaptability, and general knowledge and awareness of day to day world news.
