Your first blog for Barnet and Southgate college was very
well received by the coaching community and some
individual athletes have also commented on how useful
your article was.

Many readers have asked for further information from the

sports department in relation to key performance demands,
ideal models and performance benchmarks that should be
Vocational Scenario or
used.
Context
Your team have decided that this information can be best
delivered in the form of a presentation that can be viewed
by the coaching community, supported with an example of
a specific performance analysis method for a chosen sport.
This will help coaches and performers to consider their own
approaches and potentially design their own analysis
methods for their sports.

Task 1 You should select an individual athlete or team to base your

presentation and protocol material on.

Part 1 Presentation (10 mins)

a) In your selected sport you must research and

explore ideal performance models and benchmarks,
assessing their value. It is essential that you draw
on varied sources of information in your
presentation, for example…
 journal articles
 textbooks
 information from governing bodies
 Coach’s ideal model
 Benchmark data for your selected individual
athlete or team
 live performance statistics
 video of ideal performance models
In your presentation you will provide your
assessment and opinion of the current ideal models,
benchmarks and protocols discussing the positive
and negative elements. How credible are the
sources of information? Why should some detail or
statistics be included or excluded? Your detailed
evaluations of the current models and benchmarks
will help you to produce your own ideal model and
benchmarks in part 2.

Part 2 Own detailed protocol

Having evaluated the current established protocols, you

have decided to show the coaching community how they
could create their own detailed protocol. This will take the
form of an ‘analysis booklet’ that contains information on
your protocol and the materials that will enable you to
record the results of your analysis.

 Produce your own ideal model and performance

benchmarks considering a range of performance
factors. You should use and analyse different
sources of information (coaching manuals, journals,
statistics, internet and social media data,
information from different sport science disciplines)
to help you produce your ideal model and
benchmarks.
 You should provide details of the analysis process
that will be used and analyse its suitability for use
on your selected sport or athlete. Positive and
negative elements of the process must be explained,
and you should justify your method and process of
analysis according to their reliability, validity, cost
and accessibility. Key considerations/requirements
include…
 Timing – when will your process of analysis
take place?
 Materials needed to gather information
(equipment, recording methods e.g.,
observation checklists or tally charts and
considerations for the evaluation of your
performance measures)

Criteria covered by this task:
