Who can try out for the State Fair show?

 Walk/Trot members can try out in showmanship or ground roping. There are no riding
walk/trot classes.

 Members can only try out with ONE horse. Members must show that same horse at the State
Fair Show.
How do I qualify for the State Fair Show?

 Members can try out with ONE horse.


o Once you enter a PAS (Performance against a Standard) class with that horse, you may
NOT try out with another horse at any PAS show.
 Members must meet a specific score/time to qualify in each class.
 Members must qualify for at least 2 classes to attend the State Fair Show
 Scores are posted same day after the judge makes his/her decision.
 If you do not qualify, you may try out in another county.
o Members must fill out an out-of-county form and submit to the county they will try out
in.
o A youth cannot compete in more than two single-judged PAS shows or one double-
judged PAS show.
 Members must choose a discipline within each riding style
o Members can show in English and Western. Within English, they must choose a saddle
seat or hunt seat. Within Western, they must choose western or ranch. Exhibitors are
not permitted to cross-enter any western or ranch class.
When are State Fair try outs?

 Lake County’s PAS show is May 19th @ 9AM

How do I sign up to try out?

 Members who want to try out must complete a registration and
Horse ID form (located on the Lake County Saddle Horse Website) and
turn it in to the extension office with $25 by May 9th.
o Members can sign up on the day of the show for a late registration fee of $30.
o It is best to submit your entry fee prior to the show so that show management can
properly prepare for the show.
What to expect at our PAS Show:

 For contesting, times will not be shown or announced. Results will be posted at the entry
booth when the class concludes.

 Members trying out in contesting will have a tack check before classes begin.

 Patterns for tryouts for performance classes are posted on the website and chosen by the
state, not the judge. Patterns are currently accessible on the website.

 For performance and ranch divisions, classes will not be placed. Results will be posted at
the entry booth once the judge has tallied up scores.

 Proper show attire is required. All state 4H rules apply.


What do I do after I qualify?

 Members must submit entries only for classes they qualified for and a $50.00 (non-
refundable) stall fee on the website. https://ohio4h.org/events/ohio-state-fair-junior-

o The deadline to submit entries to the State Fair is 1:00 PM July 1st, 2024.

 Members must also submit negative Coggins dated after January 1st from the vet with their
entries.

 Show bill for the Ohio State Fair Junior Fair is available on the website.

o The fair is at The Ohio State Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio.

o Counties are usually stalled altogether.

 Members should expect to hear from Barry Booher regarding a photoshoot for individual
headshots and a group photo to be displayed at the fairgrounds to recognize an
achievement.
